30.4 - Ava Catherine’s Task: Seeing Double

No books with the genre Childrens or Kids may be used.

Read two books, one from Book 1 and one from Book 2.
The page number total for both books must exceed 500 (i.e. must be 501 or greater).

Since villain is a double-letter word, we are going to look at words containing double-letters.

Book 1: Read a book in which the author’s name contains exactly TWO sets of double-letters. One qualifying author in a work by multiple contributors works.
examples:
Ken Follett double letters ll and tt
Jonathan Littell double letters tt and ll
Flannery O'Connor double letters nn and nn
Anna Quinn double letters nn and nn

Book 2: Read a book in which the TITLE (subtitles are excluded) contains at least one set of double-letters, AND the author’s name contains at least one set of double-letters. One qualifying author in a work by multiple contributors works.
examples.
The Arrangement by Sarah Dunn
title double letters-rr/ author double letters-nn
Manhattan Beach by Jennifer Egan
title double letters-tt/ author double letters-nn
Keeping the Moon by Sarah Dessen title double letters -ee/ author double letters -ss

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 4447 comments For option 1 ... May an author's name contain MORE than two sets of double letters? Or must it be exactly two sets of double letters?

I'm thinking specifically of Colleen McCullough

I am so sorry, but it must be only two sets of double letters for book 1.
I love Colleen McCullough and am disappointed that you can’t use her here. Hopefully, the book will work for another task.

Yes, that works.

I can use her for book 2 ... Bittersweet by her has double letters in the title as well.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 4447 comments Would author Lee Harris work for Option 1?

I ask because, while your task description only states "double letters," all your examples for option 1 are of double consonants.

Absolutely! You are ready to go. Glad it worked out for you.

Yes, it works. Any double-letters work, including vowels. Happy reading.

Carrie Ann Ryan works for option 1, even though Ann is a middle name?

Julia (julia103) | 2718 comments If a book has multiple authors and one of them has double letters does that work?

1637: The Volga Rules by Eric Flint, Paula Goodlett and Gorg Huff
(Paula Goodlett has two sets of double letters)

Yes, that works, but you need to specify when you post which author you are using for the task.

This works.

Rach (rachlovestv) | 261 comments This might be a stretch, but for book 1, could I use a book with 2 authors where each of them has a set of doubles in their name to make up the 2 total? The book I'm specifically referring to is North: Finding My Way While Running the Appalachian Trail by ScoTT Jurek and JeNNy Jurek.

I totally get if it isn't allowed. I just realized it wouldn't work for book 2 (I forgot about the subtitle rule) so I'm scrambling a little.

Sorry, but your book will not work.
You will need a book in which ONE author meets the requirements. The only reason we allowed a book with two authors to qualify was to give a broader selection of choices. Maybe you can use this book somewhere else.
Good luck.
