Based on the first book, it's a light, fun read. It is also a complete series.
Book #1 -

Series Synopsis:
"Sabrina and Daphne Grimm have gone through a series of foster homes after their parents disappear. They have been treated as maids, servants, and other things that children shouldn't be. They've even been abused and ignored. This is mostly because they have a harsh and uncaring caseworker, Ms. Smirt, who is supposed to help find a safe new home for them. After all of their trouble, they end up in the care of their long-lost and supposedly dead grandmother whom Sabrina believes is crazy. They soon find that they are living in a town of Everafters, live characters from fantasy and fairy tales. Their family business is working as detectives, who solve mysteries that might be connected to the disappearance of their parents. Unluckily for them, an evil group of Everafters, called The Scarlet Hand, are determined to find a way out of the barrier created by a witch and take over the world; they also have to deal with Puck the fairy boy that lives with them. This barrier stops the Everafters in Ferryport Landing from leaving. The only way to destroy the barrier is if all the Grimms leave the town or if they all die."

This imaginative alternate history series features many noteworthy people from the past, including Sir Isaac Newton, King Louis XIV, Ben Franklin, and Blackbeard. In Newton’s Cannon, Newton discovers a substance called philosopher’s mercury in 1681, which can manipulate earth, water, air, and fire. But his discovery could lead to disastrous consequences for the world, as King Louis XIV searches for the key to world domination while his mistress secretly tries to prevent it.

In an alternate history where magic returned, a nice dragon struggles to survive his mother's curse. And as the series unfolds, it comes to higher and higher stakes.

I am new to this book club and i noticed you guys have read the Faithful And The Fallen which I've just finished.
A Time of Dread is the first in this (trilogy i think) with A Time Of Blood released in april or may this year.

But it sounds cool-I am going to order one for my kid!

It appears this series has more books forthcoming (only 2 are currently released). In addition, it appears to be aimed at YA readers.

Sorry Ashley-we read this in 2015.
You can do a search of a book on our bookshelf to see if it's been read before.

I’d like to nominate the Shadowmarch series by Tad Williams, starting with Shadowmarch. It’s a 4 volume series.

I'd like to second this.
I was thinking of the beautiful work of Patricia A. McKillip. I didn't think she had any series, but apparently The Riddle-Master of Hed is the first of a trilogy. Yay! I am nominating the Riddle Master trilogy.

If i hadn't already used my second I would for this book. I love McKillip's writing.
I have been updating the post with the list of series that have been nominated & seconded, nominated but not yet seconded, and nominated but disqualified, just in case you want to see where we are at. Just scroll up a bit—it’s pretty obvious which post it is!

I'll second this.

There seems to be some disagreement online about this, but i agree that if the group is going to read the 5 novels, then the series starts with Blood of Elves. Thanks for pointing that out. IF this series is selected when we vote, the group can decide whether to add the short story collections or not.

A big thank you to Kathy for keeping the list of books updated!

Ok, so the winner is WITCHER!
Now, the question is which book to start? The Last Wish or Blood of Elves?
Looking over various reviews, my vote is for The Last Wish

Thanks!

It's time to think about a series to follow The Bridge of D'arnath series, which will end in April. So please nominate your choice of a series for the group to begin reading in May.
