Hello Everyone!
It's time to think about a series to follow The Bridge of D'arnath series, which will end in April. So please nominate your choice of a series for the group to begin reading in May.

Nyssa | 17 comments I would like to nominate The Sisters Grimm Series by Michael Buckley

Based on the first book, it's a light, fun read. It is also a complete series.

Book #1 - The Fairy-Tale Detectives (The Sisters Grimm, #1) by Michael Buckley The Fairy-Tale Detectives

Series Synopsis:
"Sabrina and Daphne Grimm have gone through a series of foster homes after their parents disappear. They have been treated as maids, servants, and other things that children shouldn't be. They've even been abused and ignored. This is mostly because they have a harsh and uncaring caseworker, Ms. Smirt, who is supposed to help find a safe new home for them. After all of their trouble, they end up in the care of their long-lost and supposedly dead grandmother whom Sabrina believes is crazy. They soon find that they are living in a town of Everafters, live characters from fantasy and fairy tales. Their family business is working as detectives, who solve mysteries that might be connected to the disappearance of their parents. Unluckily for them, an evil group of Everafters, called The Scarlet Hand, are determined to find a way out of the barrier created by a witch and take over the world; they also have to deal with Puck the fairy boy that lives with them. This barrier stops the Everafters in Ferryport Landing from leaving. The only way to destroy the barrier is if all the Grimms leave the town or if they all die."

Katy (kathy_h) | 207 comments I'll nominate The Age of Unreason Series , which starts with Newton's Cannon by Greg Keyes

This imaginative alternate history series features many noteworthy people from the past, including Sir Isaac Newton, King Louis XIV, Ben Franklin, and Blackbeard. In Newton’s Cannon, Newton discovers a substance called philosopher’s mercury in 1681, which can manipulate earth, water, air, and fire. But his discovery could lead to disastrous consequences for the world, as King Louis XIV searches for the key to world domination while his mistress secretly tries to prevent it.

Mary Catelli | 24 comments The Heartstrikers, begining with Nice Dragons Finish Last by Rachel Aaron

In an alternate history where magic returned, a nice dragon struggles to survive his mother's curse. And as the series unfolds, it comes to higher and higher stakes.

Just a reminder regarding nominations—completed series only.

Each member of the group may make one nomination and may second one nomination. Nominations that have received seconds will move on to the poll in which we will vote for the next series.

Thanks!

Nyssa---this looks to be a MG book---we dont do kids or YA series in here.
But it sounds cool-I am going to order one for my kid!

Just to help us keep track:
Nominated and seconded:
The Stormlord Trilogy by Glenda Larke, starting with The Last Stormlord
The World of 5 Gods by Lois McMaster Bujold, starting with The Curse of Chalion
The Witcher series by Andrzej Sapkowski, starting with Blood of Elves. Note: English versions of some books in this series are available singly, or the entire series is available in English as a boxed set.
The Shadowmarch series by Tad Williams, starting with Shadowmarch
The Riddle-Mater trilogy by Patricia A. McKillip, starting with The Riddle-Master of Hed
The Crimson Empire series by Alex Marshall, starting with A Crown for Cold Silver

Nominated but not yet seconded:
The Heartstrikers series by Rachel Aaron, starting with Nice Dragons Finish Last

The Demon Cylce by Peter V. Brett, starting with The Warded Man—the group just read this last year

The Powder Mage Trilogy by Brian McClellan, starting with Promise of Blood—this series has already been read by the group.

Our group’s guidelines do not allow an author to nominate their own book(s), but you may have piqued someone else’s interest.

There seems to be some disagreement online about this, but i agree that if the group is going to read the 5 novels, then the series starts with Blood of Elves. Thanks for pointing that out. IF this series is selected when we vote, the group can decide whether to add the short story collections or not.
