Gareth Roberts (garethliam) | 1 comments looking for a fiction book I read years ago which followed the story of a number of characters during the siege. I remember this was a free download from an old Friday freebie nook blog.
One of the characters was Akbar, an archer and part of the siege army.
Then there was a Scottish guy who distilled liquor but also spent much of the book trying to make Greek Fire.
Not much to go on but can anyone help?!

Andy | 1510 comments Yeah I got this one, I was gonna recommend the book when I saw the heading but the Scots distiller I recollect quite well

It's A Place Called Armageddon

I'd also recommend his book Vlad: The Last confession

Eileen Iciek | 553 comments Speaking of Vlad and the fall of Constantinople - there's also Lucille Turner's The Sultan, the Vampyr and the Soothsayer by Lucille Turner .

I had no idea before reading that book that Vlad the Impaler had such a close connection to the Fall of Constantinople.

Andy | 1510 comments Vlad tends to get lost in all the vampire myth & forgotten that he was a mortal enemy of the Turk (Ottomans), certainly was a man for the era & managed to outdo the Turks in terms of cruelty
