What were your least favorite books of the Winter 2018 Challenge? Which books didn't meet your expectations?

Donna | 1271 comments I only had 2 (1-star) books, which is great for me. However, I did have 14 (2-star) books. That wasn't as much fun.

Absolutely, Positively
Suddenly, a Knock on the Door

Susan A | 1715 comments Heaven's Price by Sandra Brown was horrifyingly bad. I picked this because it was available through ARP, I recognized the author's name, it worked for another challenge and was published in 1983 for this challenge.

So it begins with what today we wold clearly call a sexual assault but in 1983 it was just a boyish prank. The heroine continually does the yes/no/yes thing...no wonder understanding consent has been an issue for people who grew up at this time. At one point, the "hero" raises his fist and states that he ought to hit her. These are just 3 quick things I can note.

I think if I'm going to read romance from the 80s or 90s I need to stick with Regency Romances.

Pam (bluegrasspam) Disappointed with Killing Commendatore by Murakami. Interesting story but way too long and some scenes I could’ve done without.

KSMary | 1181 comments Orlando My feelings reading this book went from didn't like it, to tolerable, to hating it. It was really a struggle for me to finish it.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 1563 comments Ugh! I had some bad ones this time around

The Glassblower
The High Mountains of Portugal
River God
The Girl Who Escaped ISIS: This Is My Story

And those are just the ones I finished-a lot got thrown back-it was a bad challenge for me this time around-looking forward to moving on.

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 3946 comments I had some real baddies this time nearly 10% of the books i read were only 1 star. I also gave up on an unprecedented number of reads - 6 books - thats probably as many as I have given up on in the last 5 years.

I didn't even start some tasks as i had no real desire to read book that fit.

I am hoping for better this season but there are a lot of lists

I think Lists are the hardest because if you don't read a genre you have to pick something just to fit in

I agree. Lists are the hardest tasks and the least fun. I dread them and generally try to stay away from list driven challenges.

Dee (austhokie) | 8964 comments lists are always an interesting task for me - but then one of the other groups i'm in does list challenges quite often - and i can normally find something i want to read - rarely do I have zero books on a list

Kathy KS | 2397 comments Lists rather irritate me, too. It always seems that the books listed are either something I've already read (there's too many books out there for me to do much re-reading) or the others just don't sound that interesting.
