Okay, so yeah, I am starting a new (kinda old) project. Actually this is the first of two projects that I'm thinking about starting. I know, I know, I'm quite bad, but I've been in a writing rut for the past few months so I'm hoping that these new projects will help pull me out of it.

This story was going to be my NaNoWriMo project last year, but then I realized that I didn't actually have enough time to do it then so I put it down to finish up Of Gold and Iron instead. With Of Gold and Iron's main edits done now I can finally start this story.

It's the first in a series about classic novels retold in a fantasy world, This one is a retelling of The Scarlet Pimpernel.

Here is its synopsis:

Darkness clings to the edges of the lavish world of Azrea.

Blood soaks the earth of its neighbor Fulare.

In a world where wealth and prestige is determined by how much magic a person has in their blood, the nobility waste their magic on trivialities, never noticing the seething masses of non or low magickers until it is too late. The common folk of Fulare have decided that they don’t need the nobility or the king’s magic to protect them from monsters from legend.

Equality for all. Death for the magic wielders.

Marguerite St. Andreas is a popular Fularian actress. She possess only a very small talent for magic, but her bevy of suitors don’t seem to care about this fact.

However, when her brother Sydney is imprisoned, she is left with a cruel either or. Find a suitable replacement for her brother’s neck on the scaffold, or he dies. But there is only one person who could be considered a suitable substitute. The Scarlet Pimpernel, a brave soul who risks his life to save those magic wielders who would otherwise face death.

Unwilling to let her brother die for a faceless phantom, Marguerite accepts the proposal of one of her long time suitors, Sir Percival Blackwell, a powerful magic user from Azrea. Percy is an inane idiot, but on his arm, she will be able to infiltrate the high society of Azrea where she must find the Scarlet Pimpernel. Or her brother will die. But is the cost of betrayal a price too high for Marguerite to pay, even for her brother’s life?

In a world of bloody revolution and monsters that hide in human skins, where enchantments conceal sinister intents, is there anyone who can truly be trusted?

message 3: by Nicki (new)

Nicki Chapelway | 2171 comments So up to this point I have written 5,574 words.

3/1/19- 1,123 words.

Here is an excerpt from the beginning...

It was a day just like any other. A smattering of red roses stained the floor in front of her, looking like tiny puddles of blood in the haunting flicker of the lights that lined the stage.
And somewhere out of those theater doors, surely not too far away at all, heads were stolen from their bodies. Snatched away to the sickening cheers of the crowd demanding for more. Always asking for more.
Just as Marguerite’s crowd cheered in anticipation for the end of the third and final act.

This is another one of my projects. It's a time travel story.

Remember Me This Time

Time travel is a thing of the past.

1890, a man dies. Missing from his body is a single note. The man was from the future, and that note just broke history.

It’s the present.

Humanity is in a golden era, making leaps and bounds in technology including the latest conquest- time travel. But time is a delicate thing and so to protect the future, certain fail safes have been put in place. To travel into the past, a person must forget their own present, therefore they will not be able to tamper with history to change the future.

Time travel offers an escape for the outcasts. A new start, a different life. For some...

It’s the future

Jameson Edward Vondrasek has a secret that could destroy everything. He doesn’t forget when he travels through time. He’s also immortal. Jameson has dedicated his existence to learning and protecting time from those who would wish to change the course of historical events. The last things he needs is more complications, especially when he realizes that someone is trying to destroy the past. Let alone complications that come in the form of a girl from the future with no memory.

And time is running out.

Jameson failed to stop a note from the future from being delivered into the past. And now time is falling apart around him. On top of all that, now he suddenly has to deal with a psychotic time traveler who has started plaguing his timeline claiming to know him well. She doesn’t seem forget either which makes it suspicious when she suddenly shows up claiming that she has no memory of anything and that his future self sent her to him. He’s expected to babysit her and somehow make her good again while still keeping himself at a distance, because emotions only ever lead to pain.

The clock is ticking… for now.

And it’s up to Jameson to make sure that it remains that way, but with two girls with amnesia and his future self seeming to hinder his every step, he isn’t so sure if he will succeed in time.

Nicki Chapelway | 2171 comments 3/10/19- 1,502 words in Remember Me This Time.

Here's an excerpt from the beginning:

Last time I traveled to the past, I nearly died. Twice. The first time involved a flock of chickens, and the second time involved a crazy farmer who thought I was trying to steal said flock of chickens. Fortunately, the cliff wasn’t actually that high after all. And gunshot wounds aren’t nearly as fatal in 3019 as they are in 1885. It was still extremely painful though. Especially considering that the bottom of that cliff was covered in poison ivy. Needless to say, I’ve been spending an undue amount of time in the present.

Here's an excerpt...

They won’t remember what they learned about this time zone. That is why they have to choose a safe time. Before they are thrust blind into any time era that they chose.
They have to trust their past selves. If I were in their cases, I would be long dead. My past self is extremely unreliable. Reason I’m in this mess and all that.
I’d probably have stuck myself on the Titanic.
Idealistic idiot.

So ah... seven-ish? I'm not sure if I should count Of Gold and Iron right now since I'm kinda not working on editing it any further, so maybe six? (I haven't announced one of my projects, I'll do that when I start writing it) Yeah, we'll go with six. Two I'm editing, three I'm writing, and one I'm brainstorming.

With League of Thieves and Of Gold and Iron's companion series waiting on the sidelines.

*faints from sheer number of books in head* *scurries off back to exile*

Okay, so this is probably the last project I'll add to this thread for a while (but I'm not making any promises!), but allow me to introduce The Book of Glass

It's Pinterest Board: https://www.pinterest.com/nickichapel...

The synopsis:

A villain. A librarian. And an assassin.

Isitrea is crumbling, and they are not the ones who will save it. They might just destroy it though.

Thea spends her life surrounded by dusty tomes. Her family’s mission of protecting the sacred Glass Book was perverted when the king’s brother Zander stole the throne, an awful truth that cost her parents their lives and her grandfather his sanity. But after years of gazing into the glass book her grandfather has become a seer and he has seen an end to the destruction, an end that comes in the form of the young stable boy. Corwin is her best friend and her only hope and she’ll do whatever it takes to help him succeed, even if it means treason. Even if it means standing up to the dark, wicked prince who seems to pay too much attention to her.

Nadine is an assassin who serves Zander. But killing isn’t the only thing she does under the cover of darkness. Her loyalty is a farce, she’s also the leader of a band of outlaws who rebel against the false king’s oppressive rule. But to keep Zander’s trust, she must complete her missions. Until she’s sent to kill a boy who may just be the only person who can save them. Nadine is faced with a choice. Will this be her final test, or her final rebellion?

Wystan will bring destruction if he has anything to say about it. Corrupted by his magic which taints his mind and his soul, he’ll do it whether he wants to or not, so he might as well just accept the fact. One day he will rule, assuming he can complete the task given him by his dark father, but a certain librarian seems to have quite a bit to say on the matter. And if there is anything the silver tongued Wystan can’t resist, it’s a good argument.

The lines are drawn, the pieces are in place, and if the glass book shatters all will be lost. But in a world where the villains hide behind deceitful charm and kind smiles, and the good have hideous scars and questionable motives how is anything to be trusted? Even prophecies.

message 41: by Nicki (last edited Sep 20, 2019 08:55AM) (new)

Nicki Chapelway | 2171 comments Okay so... *deep breaths* I am starting a new/sort of old/remastered story.

A little about this story:

It is actually about as old as Week of Werewolves, I worked on the original version of it the same summer I was writing the first draft of Week of Werewolves. I finished Week of Werewolves first and then two weeks later this story.

It was originally a short story that I wrote for the Rooglewood Press Beauty and the Beast contest, but I have torn this story apart and sewn it back together so much that you would not be able to recognize it in its earliest form XD

I am going to try to keep it as a standalone.

Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4dj...

Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/nickichapel...

Working Title:: Darkness From the Stars

Comp Titles: Beauty and the Beast meets Pride and Prejudice and Zombies meets the X-Files

Rhyme or Reason: absolutely none

Time Period/Genre: Far in the future, but a Regency like setting (think Rook only repeating the Regency era rather than the French Revolution); Gothic Horror

Tagline: It isn't civil to play with dead things...

Blurb:

Astra Dempshire has always led a quiet life. As the middle daughter of a wealthy merchant, living in the walled confines of her circle of society protected from the Infected, her only cares so far have been to avoid her mother's matchmaking schemes and survive family feuds. This all changes when the handsome Edgar Wintersleave, son of the famed General Wintersleave, decapitates her dance partner.

Edgar Wintersleave is a mystery to the good folks of Eastern Yorkshire, even his own family. Even to himself. When his whole regiment disappeared months ago, he was presumed dead or worse. Only to appear wandering in the Infected lands wounded with no memory of the past few months or any idea of what became of the rest of his regiment.

Astra however knows just what to think of Edgar and his claims that there are more deadly things out there than just the Infected. Perhaps he has won over all of society with his alluring dark manners, but she won’t forget what he did to George Pimberly. Even if he claims that he actually saved her life and that Pimberly was an Infected.

But as Infected attacks and other deadly encounters find their way inside the walls of Eastern Yorkshire, Astra is left questioning all she believes. Edgar may not be as mad as she originally thought. Perhaps there is an intelligence behind this pervasive evil. Perhaps the Infected aren’t the only things out there that threaten humanity.

First Line:

Short of Mama, every single guest on the list, and the Princess Regent becoming Infected I am afraid that there is no getting out of this ball.
