Jamie & Ezi - Maybe in Another Life

Jamie (TheRebelliousReader) (iambrucewayne) | 478 comments Just got the audio from hoopla and I'm excited to start. Have you read any of her work previously? I've read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and that's one of my favorite books ever so I can't wait to see how this one is going to be.

Jamie (TheRebelliousReader) (iambrucewayne) | 478 comments I definitely am excited to get to Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid . My preorder came through on my kindle this morning and I'm looking forward to reading it.

I started listening to Maybe in Another Life last night, I didn't get very far, only about 2 hours in but it's okay so far. The narrator has such a soothing voice that it's easy for it to become background noise after a while. Doesn't help that I was online shopping while listening to it, I may have been a bit distracted with that. Lol.

I started the Audiobook.

Wow. Talk about a girl who is listless. She’s 29 years old so she should have started to have a better sense of self by now

Jamie (TheRebelliousReader) (iambrucewayne) | 478 comments I totally agree. I honestly keep forgetting that she's 29 because she acts way younger than that. I honestly don't care too much for her at this point but I'm still intrigued with the story even though the dual time line is a bit confusing at times.

Jamie (TheRebelliousReader) (iambrucewayne) | 478 comments So I just finished the audiobook and honestly I don't know how I feel about it. I didn't care for Hannah in either time line and was way more interested in her best friend Gabby but there was just something missing for me. And I can tell this is one of Jenkins earlier books because the writing didn't seem as strong to me.

I'm interested to see which time line you preferred. I definitely enjoyed (view spoiler).

So far, she has left the married man whom she pretended wasn’t married even though she knew he was. I wonder if her feelings of worth (lack therefore) is due to her absentee family connection.

I suspect if the wife didn’t call to confront her she would still be messing with that man 🙄

Jamie (TheRebelliousReader) (iambrucewayne) | 478 comments The way she kept trying to justify it makes me believe that she would've stayed with him if the wife hadn't found out. Her denial about the whole thing was a mess. Her best friend even told her that she thought that man might be married and it still didn't concern Hannah.

The Best friend said she was positive the man was married. Who is this Ethan dude she’s worried about? I’m intrigued

Jamie (TheRebelliousReader) (iambrucewayne) | 478 comments Ethan is her ex boyfriend from college(?) or high school. One of the two. I didn't really care for him.

OMG,
She goes to bar with Gabby and Mark, puts down her credit card without knowing how much she has on it and in the bwnk. Is it not crazy? How can you live without knowing how much you have to spend? Clearly she doesn’t budget

Ok. Ethan was a sweet highschool kid. Ethan NOW is a hornet adult. He made sure he went home with someone from that party huh?

😩😩😩.
Car Accident...Mark is cheating...Hannah is pregnant
What the Hell? So much drama.

Jamie (TheRebelliousReader) (iambrucewayne) | 478 comments Not gonna lie I was so hurt for Gabby when it was revealed Mark was having an affair. Wasn't expecting that at all.

On some level I felt for Mark too because i suspect he knew that his wife “settled” for him and so he didn’t feel like the love of her life. He certainly should have handled it better but it wasn’t fair to either one of them to just be together because you were afraid of being alone.

I don’t like this alternative view format, the switching back and forth is confusing me and I don’t like it

Jamie (TheRebelliousReader) (iambrucewayne) | 478 comments I definitely agree. I didn't think of it like that while I was listening to it. I just thought how he went about it so wrong in both time lines. But I remember Gabby saying how she settled for him and the love was no longer there.

And yeah, the alternate format isn't done all that well. She should've done it in two parts because I got lost a lot while listening.

I finished...and I was very disappointed. I think if the author just took one path and developed it, I would have just been able to decide how i felt about that situation.
In all situations, Hannah suddenly became the voice of reason and the Golden heroine.

For the first half, she was a flighty heroine but an accident and accidental pregnancy gave her moral high ground. I didn’t really feel like that was enough growth for me to believe this new responsible Hannah.

I liked Henry. He was a good nurse and a good guy. Like you, I’m ambivalent about Ethan. I didn’t love him as a hero but given the person Hannah was, seeing him from her perspective made me not judge him harsh

Jamie (TheRebelliousReader) (iambrucewayne) | 478 comments I thought it was weird that after the accident she became 'high road Hannah'. Very unrealistic and made me not like her more. She just didn't feel developed at all.

I also was so annoyed (and a bit confused) that the last two chapters were pretty much word for word the exact same thing except switch the guy she was with. That was lazy to me and I would've preferred of TJR had made the endings more different from each other. And I thought it was cheesy that in both time lines both Ethan and Henry told her that they probably would've ended up with her 'in another life'. *rolls eyes*

Yeah, this one just wasn't that great. The more I think about it the more I want to lower my rating to a 2 star.

I also want to lower to to 2 stars because the book felt like an outline that they author didn’t get a chance to really fill out 🙄
With that said, I just got in line to borrow Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid . I’m first in line for the audiobook

Jamie (TheRebelliousReader) (iambrucewayne) | 478 comments I have Daisy Jones on my kindle so whenever you get that one we could buddy read that one as well if you want.
