Fareeha (fareeha_jalil) | 10 comments Hi ladies,

I'm a big fan of M.M.Kaye (historical fiction and whodunnits and all). But if you think Far Pavilions is good, give her other British Raj era 'Shadow of the Moon' a try! I loved it more...won't say anything else as don't wanna spoil it.

Shes overall a great writer and all her works are really good :)

Enjoy!

Fareeha.

Oh yes! I would love to read that one, too. Thanks Fareeha. Let one of us know if you want to do a group read. It would be fun. I'm sort of over-committed for the next couple of months by maybe after November we could give it a go :)

Tadiana ✩Night Owl☽ | 1234 comments I've got a copy of SotM and would love to do a buddy/group read of it. A few months down the road is fine with me.

Diane Lynn | 105 comments I'd be up for a reread of SotM. It's been more than 20 years so I'm quite sure I have forgotten most of it.

Fareeha (fareeha_jalil) | 10 comments You're welcome Kathy and Hana. Shadow is one of my fav books. I happen to like Alex more than Ashton (sheepish smile). Will love to do a group reading with you ladies. After November sounds great!

On another note, have any of you read her Trade Winds set in exotic Zanzibar and involving pirates? :)

Take care!

A November read of another M.M. Kaye book is a great idea! Is there a particular order to the books? Should we read one before the other?

Diane Lynn | 105 comments Trade Winds and Shadow of the Moon can be read in any order. They are both excellent.

Fareeha (fareeha_jalil) | 10 comments Hi Hana! Diane is right, they aren't connected. Rather only two M.M. Kaye's fictional books are connected somewhat, Trade Winds has references in Death in Zanzibar (murder mystery).

I just looked quickly at some of my GR friends' reviews of Trade Wind and I'm quite drawn to that one. Zanzibar!! The slave trade and pirates! Spices!

I've spent so much time in India this year that I'm rather keen to visit Zanzibar--and it would add a new country on my personal Around-the-World Reading Challenge :)

But I'm game for Shadow of the Moon if most of you prefer that one. I'll put up a poll. Of course we can always do them both, one in November and the other in, say, late January or February.

Misfit | 155 comments Shadow of the Moon is awesome. I'd also recommend Zemindar by Valerie Fitzgerald. It covers the same period (Sepoy Rebellion), but her characters are inside the Residency, so a different perspective.

Thanks Misfit--an excellent thought

Fareeha (fareeha_jalil) | 10 comments Thanks Misfit for recommending Zemindar. Its been on my wish list for a while, time I got down to it...
