The pacing keeps up for chapters 29 through 42 as *spoilers* Perrin and Egwene are captured by The Children Of The Light, Mat starts acting weird as his obsession over the dagger grows, and we meet a new favourite character. A favourite of mine, at least.

I do love Loial! I’d say that he definitely is a favourite.

Sunil | 22 comments This section was a real low point for Matt; he was miserable and complained constantly. So glad his troubles have ceased for the time being. The first encounter with Min was cool but very short. What did people think of Elayne?

I liked that bit with Elayne. It was literally like dropping Rand into a completely different world for a moment. It was fun.

The section with Elayne and the queen was by far my favorite of the whole book so far. It was a totally different thing than what we are used to up to this point ( traveling on the road and staying at inns). I cant help but think that Elayne will play a bigger part down the road in this series. I also hope that the Queen and Captain-General Gareth end up together. Of all the romances in this series, the one between the queen and Gareth seems the most heartfelt.

Amanda (tazzypumpkin) | 20 comments I just finished Ch. 33. Is Mat annoying the heck out of anyone else? He keeps putting comfort ahead of safety and so he and Rand keep encountering Dark friends wherever they stop. When will they learn that they just need to keep away from villages and people? So frustrating!

I found Mat pretty frustrating during this part as well, but knew it had something to do with the dagger, so was hoping it would be a simple as talking the dagger away. Unfortunately not. He seemed kind of Gollum-ish toward the end there.

I also LOVE Loial! He's such an interesting character.

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 37 comments I'm currently on Ch. 40! 172 more pages to go. I'm doing it. I'm actually doing it!

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 37 comments Matt and Rand make a good team. Rand seems to be more on the calm and gentle side. While Matt is a kick-butt first ask questions later kind of guy. So they balance each other out. I can't wait to see how things progress in their friendship throughout the books.

Vita Perillo | 8 comments Wow! This book keeps getting better and better! I was so relieved when the entire group (excluding Thom) was reunited! Before this happened, I predicted that they would be traveling their separate ways until the very end of the book. I'm so glad I was wrong. I was also relieved when Rand, Perrin and Mat finally told Moiraine about the dreams. Such a thrilling book! I can't wait to continue this story.

Hoang (hoangh98) | 35 comments oh man, I can't get over how annoying and irritating Matt is. I think it's been building up since Rand reached Tow Rivers.

Hoang (hoangh98) | 35 comments I don't think it's just the dagger affecting Mat. He has always been kinda annoying since Two Rivers. The dagger just elevated it and made it way worse.

I also share the same frustrations with you Hoang. I'm trying to view Mat's flaws as an opportunity for character development and growth as the story goes on! So I'm trying to keep that in mind, so I don't lose my mind during scenes with Mat haha!
