The lead prosecutor of the Apple Tree Daycare case, Erica Shay, essentially jailed three innocent people for the crime. Did she ignore evidence or was she also a victim? What will probably happen to her?

Melissa (melissasd) | 194 comments She ignored evidence and convicted them due in part to her past. I feel like she was blinded by her own pain.

Yeah, she forced the evidence to fit the suspects and ignored those that would have called that conclusion into question. I don’t see her as a victim because those children’s stories were suspect from the start.

Her career will suffer significantly. Three people were sent to jail, two dying there and one murdered because of him being convicted. Prosecutors pay a price for this kind of mistake, especially because she ignored what was in front of her.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 2240 comments Yes, she ignored the evidence. She wanted to make a name for herself.

The story reminded me so much of the movie Unspeakable Acts from the 1990s. I remember being horrified at the events in the movie (based on a true case), but now it is clear that it was all false memories planted in the children's minds. It is awful that so many innocent people were imprisoned and some even lost their lives because of the lies - mob mentality at work.

I remember that, Lauren. It was tragic.

Robin (robinmy) | 1214 comments I wish the author would have followed up with what happened to the former prosecutor after Lizzie's body was discovered.

Yes. I would have liked some follow up on that as well.
