What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

i'm starting to feel i dreamed this book,. i feel like it was novella length, but it may have been a story included in a story collection (though i dont think so).

a girl lives at a small cottage near a lake in the forest. one night she goes there, and she meets a swan/boy. he has to return to the lake by midnight ot forever be separated from his swan siblings. something bad happens and she saves him from drowning, in return for which the swan queen gives her a wish and she asks for the boy to remain with her. the swan queen agrees, as long as he returns by his 18th birthday. i believe the boy is not aware of this agreement, they grow up together at the cottage and receive a rural education from the girl's parent(s??)

spoilers: im pretty sure at the end they try to run away together to the big city for college, and they succeed in this?

i read this book in the past two years or so.

Sounds like a mashup of Blanca & Roja and something else?

I don't believe it was part of a series, so that would mean Dearest is out. I definitely mean to read Blanca & Roja anyway, so if it turns I've read it before I will update here!

this was "Daughter of the Sun" by Shveta Thakrar, a short story in the anthology A Thousand Beginnings And Endings.
