The Round House is populated with a fascinating cast of characters -- Geraldine and Bazil; Joe; Joe’s three friends (Cappy, Zack, & Angus), with their love of Star Trek and girls from Montana; Whitey and Sonja, a couple with a “volatile” relationship; Mooshum and Clemence, and their continuous fight over swamp tea vs. whiskey; Grandma Thunder and her neverending supply of food and dirty talk; and so many more. Louise Erdrich wrote each of these characters with care, making them well-rounded and believable.

Did you have a favorite? A least favorite? Why?

I was thrilled to see Nanapush (a character from Erdrich's book Tracks) make an appearance during Mooshum's sleep-talking/story-telling!

Illiterate | 5 comments Moonshum and the priest. Loved Moonshums stories. I love stories of survival against incredible odds. He was giving Joe a the story of his people. And with those legends he was showing him that he has the ability forge the way for justice despite unreasonable odds. It is in his blood.
Loved the priest as well. I loved the fact he wrestled with Christianity and reality.
I think Sonya might have been my least liked. But did have a chuckle at the birthday gift scene for Mooshum
