Very interesting discussion GB. Truly Interstellar!Here are a few thoughts, I picked up from another group:
If you had a mirror on the moon (about 238K miles away), you could see about 2.5 seconds into Earth's past. If that mirror was on Pluto, you could see about 13.4 hours into Earth's past.
If you could magically be transported 27 lightyears away, or had a mirror strategically placed 13.5 lightyears away, you could see yourself being born.

The most interesting thing is that a black hole is not completely black! Enough photons (light particles) escape to allow us to photograph it.

A black hole is a place in space where gravity pulls so much that even light can not get out. The gravity is so strong because matter has been squeezed into a tiny space. This can happen when a star is dying.
Because no light can get out, people can't see black holes. They are invisible

The orbit of the Moon is decaying, and it will eventually crash into the Earth. But do not worry, it will not happen for a while yet.

Kepler-47 is a roughly 3.5-billion-year-old system located 3,340 light-years from Earth.
The newly announced Kepler-47d, which is about 7 times bigger than Earth.
Kepler-47b and Kepler-47c, both have two suns in their skies, just like Luke Skywalker's home planet of Tatooine in the "Star Wars" universe.
The researchers made the discovery using the most prolific planet hunter of all time, NASA's Kepler space telescope.

If you look at the galaxy ESO 137-001 in visible light, you can see why it's considered an example of a "jellyfish" galaxy. Blue ribbons of young stars dangle from the galaxy's disk like cosmic tentacles.

A group of undergrad students is developing a magnetic shield to defend interplanetary astronauts from the intense cosmic radiation between Earth and Mars.
The students, from Drake University in Iowa, presented their project in the poster session Saturday (April 13) at the April meeting of the American Physical Society. Their MISSFIT (Magneto-Ionization Spacecraft Shield for Interplanetary Travel) design uses a powerful magnetic shield that, like Earth's magnetosphere, protects the planet from high-energy particles.
