I read this book for the ATY 2019 Reading Challenge Week 38: Alternate Format.
The whole book is written in poetry. It works so well, especially when describing the action during a basketball game. It felt like the poetry added to the drama of the story. Josh Bell tells the story of his family, his twin brother Jordan, and the winning basketball season in their last year of junior high. Alexander captures Josh's feelings of elation during an exciting game. His feeling of anger, betrayal, and loneliness when his brother gets a girlfriend. And those same feelings, when his father has a heart attack, but with a difference. Getting to wear his father's championship ring after his team wins the county championship is bittersweet. He is not certain he feels like "Da man."
