What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I want to say it was a young adults book. The main characters older brother ends up having died while in the army. The main character goes through the brothers footlocker and finds love letters. The main character goes on a mission of sorts to find the person and finds who they think is that person but it turns out that brother was actually in the closet and had been dating the womans brother.
