Antonomasia | 2 comments Hi, Does anyone know of a list of all the books (i.e. from all editions) by original language, or failing that, countries the writers were from?

The closest I've found is this, of book settings: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
but as it uses hover-over covers, not written links, it would take ages to make a list from it - can't just paste titles of the books of interest.

BTW I have already made a list of books by women in translation from the 1001 (so a subset of the list of books by women) but haven't put it on GR yet.

ETA - found that pasting the cover links into Notepad reveals the titles, so that will be a workaround. However if just looking at certain countries it ends up missing out translated books set elsewhere (especially ones listed under the UK or the US settings)

Claire | 9 comments It is important to decide on a few things. The link you gave puts Camus under Algeria because the books are set in Algeria, but I’d put him under France. You have a lot of classics that belong to out of date countries.
I don’t think it is so much work to do it if you take the original language for instance. If there is a list with l8nks it would be easily doable.

Albert Camus was born in Algeria, which was a French colony during his lifetime. His mother was Spanish and his father French, if I remember correctly.

It says on GR that he came to France at the age of 25, which means he spent his childhood, puberty and the first half of his twenties in Algeria, and that can't have been anything else than influential at that age.

So it is not only because his books are set in Algeria 🙂 I agree to seeing him as a French author, by the way, but not so much as him being 'French' (hard to explain the difference), as he spent a significant part of his life in Algeria. In the link given, I think I'd put him under Algeria too.

I made the list you referred to in post one and it is settings and not author origins. You can find the author origins in the bookshelf: https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...
