MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments I'm currently reading:
-NPCs (BotM - FA) (so far, looks like fun!)
-Chronicles of the Black Company (BotM - FoF)
-Artificial Condition
-various romances when they can keep my attention

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments I was going to start Raising Steam yesterday, but it seems to be the one Discworld book we didn't have in our library.

So I read Namesake, Volume 1 and Namesake, Volume 2 instead - some graphic novels I've had sitting around for awhile. I liked them. They take this idea that "namesakes" of famous stories - like Alice and Dorothy - sometimes get pulled into their namesake worlds to continue to stories.

This time, though, a young woman named Emma gets pulled into Oz, and she's not your usual Dorothy.

Unfortunately I have to continue the rest of the series online, which is a bit annoying, but at least it's free...

This morning I started The Heart Forger, sequel to The Bone Witch. Not very far in yet.

That sounds actually pretty interesting.

I'm actually really enjoying NPCs. It's a lot of fun (so far). I'm about 30% in.

It's pretty cool. I'm enjoying it.

There's some issues with the artwork, where a lot of people sort of look the same, and there was some weird time jumpiness halfway through the second book, but, overall, I'm liking the story.

The whole thing is available online for free, too: https://namesakecomic.com/comic/archive

NPC's sounds pretty cool. Let me know how it goes.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments Thanks! I'll check this out.

NPCs is on KU if you have it. I'll let you know how it goes. So far, I am having fun.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments I do not have KU. I've thought about it, but I still prefer paper books when I can get them, and use the library for most other stuff.

Makes sense. And there's a lot of BS in KU.

For shame! Have you asked if they might add it to the collection? If they have the rest then it might fit into whatever criteria they have for considering additions.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments Sorry to be unclear. I meant my personal library - and it's already been ordered. ^_^

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments I finished reading NPCs! Also more Murderbot. ;-)

message 11: by Beth (new)

Beth (rosewoodpip) Getting close to the halfway mark in The Snow Queen for a BR in another group. I haven't read a lot of SF of this vintage and it feels vintage, all right. It's fun, if a bit mindless.

Also about 1/3 of the way through Wyrd Sisters. As with many of the earlier Discworlds, I can't specifically remember if I read this one 25+ years ago or not. So much of it seems familiar, but I have no recollection of how the various plot threads turn out.

Also also very very slowly chipping away at the audio of Becoming. About 3/4 of the way through it now. I've enjoyed every bit of it, it's just hard for me to find time for audio unless I have insomnia.

Marc *Dark Reader with a Thousand Young! Iä!* (marcthedarc) Glad to see all the Discworld love here! I have been meaning to start a re-read forever (although it's been so long for most of those books, it will be a whole new experience). Colleen, glad you are acquiring Raising Steam. To me this is the true final book in this world since A Shepherd's Crown was so unfinished.

I am working on The Well of Ascension and 1Q84 simulatneously, which is seriously slowing my usual book completion rate, with about 1700 pages between the two of them.

message 14: by colleen the convivial curmudgeon, Not a book hipster! (new)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments Reading Shadow of Night, sequel to A Discovery of Witches. I had issues with the first one but enjoyed it in a guilty pleasures kind of way, but I'm 80 pages into this one and wondering when a) anything is going to make sense and b) if my eyeballs are going to get sprained from all the eyerolling...

Ala | 469 comments After bouncing off the first chapter for a week, due to my brain not being in reading mode, finally managed to get into and through A Brightness Long Ago. Another 5-star book from GGK.

message 19: by Felina (new)

Felina I’m almost done with The Black Company. Really enjoying it. My brother and his wife are in town for a visit this past week and it stalled my reading quite a bit. I started Those Across the River for another group read but I can’t remember which group. Really enjoying it so far.

message 20: by Greg (new)

Greg | 201 comments In May, I finished reading The Three-Body Problem as part of a group read in another group. I also read Jordan vs. All the Boys and finished Tapestry.
