While this is not meant to be criticism in any way, I do wonder if the problem of boredom might rest, at least in part, with the list itself. It’s more a list of required academic reading; it doesn’t strike me as a list of books that truly inspire people.
It seems like a lot of books ended up on this list because people wanted to come across as smart. (Moby-Dick?) Or because they thought they had something to prove. (The Bible?)
But If you want to really strike up a conversation, ask people to list the ONE book they would recommend to ANYONE. I think a lot of the pretentiousness would fall away and we would hear what people are truly passionate about.
And I submit to you that that dialogue would stand nary a chance of growing stale.
Again, thanks for all your time and energy. I just had to share my two cents.
I think you will find that question has been asked in many formats over the years. However, why don’t you ask the question and see what response you get. After all, this group is open for any members to make posts, not just the moderators.

Sophie you are a godsend. As I have previously said I am flagging and I would like someone to take over. I will add you as a moderator, if you could do the monthly group reads that would be great.
Many, many, many thanks. Christine
