Monica (nutz4reading) Hi all. Checking in

message 10: by M (new)

M Beal | 143 comments Just wondering if I am the only one with a TBR pile ready for this.

message 11: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) Oh I have a huuuuuuuge TBR pile ready!! I am currently at my sister's so once the shelf is called I will be looking for a possible book to fit it and going to my house to find the book, if I don't already have it with me.

message 12: by BarbaraAnn (new)

BarbaraAnn | 327 comments so far, I've got several options for the free space, but haven't looked too much at the other categories.

message 13: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) I have a few ARCs I can use for the free space. I haven't looked at the other categories either. I probably should so I can have a book ready.

message 14: by Amanda A (new)

Amanda A | 685 comments I have a huge TBR but I don't usually look for a book until the shelf is called so I can fit it in as many challenges as possible at the time.

Does anyone want to volunteer for captain?

message 15: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) I don't want to be captain.

message 16: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 995 comments I would prefer not to be captain as I just got done captaining a team in a different game. But that said, I’m used to it so if no one else wants it I can step up.

message 17: by Amanda A (last edited Jun 03, 2019 05:14PM) (new)

Amanda A | 685 comments I can be captain, if no one else wants to do it. I have done it before in a few versions of Bingo for other groups. It looks like we don't have to come up with a team name if everyone is good with Team 13.

message 18: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) I’m fine with using team 13 as our name. I can’t believe our first shelf is tomorrow. I’m excited to see what it is.

Thanks for stepping up to be captain.

message 19: by M (new)

M Beal | 143 comments First shelf tomorrow, so excited!! I like Team 13.

message 20: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 995 comments Thanks Amanda!! And yay Team 13!!

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 556 comments I am happy to be team 13.

Just a heads up that I am in hospital tomorrow having a skin cancer removed from my face so while may not check in for a couple of days, I will definitely be checking when I can and reading for the round

message 22: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 995 comments Oh take care Nikk! Sending you well wishes for a speedy recovery!

For Historical, I'll read Last Train to Istanbul by Ayşe Kulin 374 pg. Historical fiction is MPG and the book takes place before and during WWII.

Monica (nutz4reading) COMPLETION POST:
Shelf: Historical
Book: Prisoner of My Desire by Johanna Lindsey
Pages: 425 pages
Read: 6/7
Rating: 5 Stars
Review: I love Johanna Lindsey and she didn't disappoint with this book! The characters in this book were ones that I fell in love with right from the beginning. You have the Lady Rowena, her step brother Gilbert, the ruthless 'villain' Warrick and many more secondary characters that just complete the wonderful story that unfolds in Prisoner of My Desire.

Prisoner of My Desire is the story of Lady Rowena and Lord Warrick. Warrick is at war with Rowena's step brother Gilbert. Rowena becomes a prisoner of Lord Warrick after her brother leaves Rowena to face the devil of Fulkhurst.

The interaction of Rowena and Warrick is just enjoyable. You can feel the attraction just from Johanna's writing. I found myself laughing, fist pumping and crying at times. She is my favorite romance author!!

Shelf: Free Space
Book: A Beautiful Mess
Pages: 330 pages
Read: 6/8/19
Rating: **
Review: Beautiful mess described this book perfectly. It was an interesting romantic suspense theme, but both MCs were idiots (especially as one was a billionaire ex-seal who was ceo of his company). Neither MC could communicate and there was so many inconsistencies, it stopped being funny. To top it off, the book ended on such a major cliffhanger, that it seemed to just stop dead in the middle of the book. Don't plan to move forward with the series and it's good that this was free.

Review:
The book begins in a small English village near the sea. Osric, who was taken in by the local blacksmith has no past and no memory except for the last few years. When his village is attacked he is taken captive. The leader of the band, Sigurd the lucky, is surprised by his ability to speak the langauge and swordwork. He proves himself and is given the name Raven. He and Sigurd forge a deep bond as he travels with the band. This is book one of the series

Review: An interesting thriller that included multiple mysteries within the story and kept me hooked. The switch between characters and years was confusing at first but I enjoyed it as it progressed. Idlewild Hall was an intriguing setting and just as integral to the plot as the characters. This is the first book by this author that I have read but I will be looking for more of her books.

Review: I haven't actually read the dark elements series but I still really enjoyed this read. I loved the main characters and picked a little bit of what was was going to happen before it. The story kept me in it from beginning to end and over all this was a very quick enjoyable read. I can't wait to see where it goes in book 2.

Review: This was a really cute sweet quick mystery set in the roaring twenties. The mystery itself was fairly simple and uncomplicated but still clever and the author unveiled the clues well. I really quite liked the main character Violet in this book, she was a fun character to read about and the story made me interested in continuing on with this series. Great for a quick fun read :-)

Book: Last Train to Istanbul

Review: I've read books about World War II before, but this was a completely different perspective. It focused on Turkey's actions during the war and showing the lives of several different people, both those living in Turkey and those living in France. It was very hard to put down. The largest part of the story revolved around an effort to bring a train full of at-risk Jewish people out of occupied France into Turkey.
