I think, due to Jem's limitations, drawing on that extra power and relying on Will is the perfect situation for Jem.
I agree, Jessika. It’s akin to what we ask of 18-year olds when starting college...decide a career path for the rest of your life. It’s crazy.
The parabatai relationship is saving Jem, extending his life. In a way, it’s saved Will, too. It’s given him purpose.
There’s a purity of thinking in youth (normally) that might be beneficial in having them make a decision of this weight at their age. If they were asked to make it later in life, it would be biased by distrust and cynicism.
