I can get lost in Walker's gorgeous prose. I think she can write about anything and I would love it. This book revisits some of the characters from The Color Purple and introduces several new characters. Walker explores a variety of thought-provoking topics, beautifully woven into the story. The story is told in a nonlinear manner, occurs throughout a myriad of settings, and is related in multiple layers, making it a somewhat challenging read. She also inserts a good dose of magical realism, especially with the character of Lizzie. The book lacks in plot and character development, but the beauty of the prose more than compensates.
