These are great! Can you choose one?

Also the themes you mentioned are the ones I mentioned above that we have had already. And they are great! If enough people want them we can certainly do them again!

No problem! I edited my original post to make it clear.

We already had a broad Asian Folklore and Mythology themed group read, so I think we can keep it just Japanese.
However to keep it aligned with this group it should be Japanese Folk tales and Mythology and retellings and literature inspired by

It was runner up in the May 15-July 14 2017 poll, but I don't see it as a winning group read theme in prior years. Please correct me if I'm wrong and I'll nominate something else.
I also think it's okay to redo themes, as long as the winning books aren't nominated, and it's not a recent theme. Do you agree, Jalilah?

Totally!

Yes absolutely! I don't think we ever had a Greek mythology theme and if we did we can ask Tamara Agha-Jaffar for suggestions!

Maggi, would you like to nominate African/African American or Folklore or Mythology of First Nations/Native Americans?
Anyone else?
Because I got a late start I would like to put the poll up this weekend

I have a ton of suggestions I can make if Greek mythology wins. I have immersed myself in writing and reading as many retellings of Greek myths a I can get my hands on :)
I went ahead and set up the poll so there is sufficient time to vote for theme, nominate the books, vote for the books and order the winning books!
Here is the link: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/1...
The theme poll will stay open one week until June 29
Thread will be posted for the book nominations until July 6
Then the poll will come up for the books and the winners will be announced July 13
There is not a lot of time to get the books before the group read starts, but usually we can tell beforehand which books are probably going to win. As well, everyone does not have to start the group read exactly on the 15th!

We have a 2 way tie between the Japanese and Greek themes!
This has never happened before with themes.
When it happened with books we read both books.
In this case I imagine 2 themes at once is too much.
I am going to suggest we do both themes but not at once.
I like both themes, so don't care which one we do first.
Let me know everyone if you have any suggestions!
Otherwise my suggestion is:
July 15-September 14 retellings of, books based on or inspired by Japanese Mythology
September 15-November 14 retelling of, books inspired by or based on Greek Mythology
If anyone has any other suggestions let me know, otherwise one of us will put up the book nomination thread later on today!
