Kingdom of Ash
question
What to read now?

I'm creating this thread in the hopes of genuine recommendations of similar story worlds to be posted to give the same feeling this series created - I have two whole bookshelves at this point and counting of books I purchase out of a need to collect, but haven't read because I just constantly re-read this series again because the world, and magic Sarah weaves into it is just beautiful. Few books have given me the same satisfaction.
SO - if you agree, and want to discuss, have any suggestions on what to read after such a world building, epic fantasy - please leave them below for myself and anyone else who have the same issue so we can look into them if we haven't already read them!
I know myself personally, love anything with the aspect like in ToG of Fae, magic, the witches, mystical creatures - etc.

Honestly, it will always be difficult to find a series that creates the same feeling ToG gave us, but I've been trying my best to find it. So far, I think these few may (emphasis on may) somewhat qualify.
Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo:
There are many concepts with magic that come from these people called Grisha. Abilities range from fire to darkness, and it's really interesting when you go into depth about it.
Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard:
I'm going to be frank. It's very much a YA novel. By that, I mean it can be very cringey and stupid. But I love the balance between the superiority of the silver blooded and the oppression of the red blooded. My favorite part (when I first read it) was the mystery behind the main character's abilities. I am also addicted to love triangles because why not.
The Kiss of Deception:
This is just the definition of YA. You don't know who the assassin is and who the prince is. She likes them both. I'll leave it at that.
Cinder by Marissa Meyer:
VERY YA. But there is an interesting concept that makes up for it. Each book adds in a new character, a new perspective. The main character is always present, but she befriends each character introduced. They all help each other, even if they have their own goals. It becomes complicated, and yet, it is cohesive.
Marie Lu is a dystopian author, but her writing transformed my taste in books.
Legend:
June is brilliant and loyal, but her love interest is seen as a rebel (ignore my wording). They are a great balance, and it just messes with your emotions.
The Young Elites:
One of the darkest series I have ever read. Magic and abilities are very present here.
Warcross:
Hacking and futuristic aspects make up the entire plot, but I love the characters.
You should also check out Wattpad. There are some great stories on there, and of course, I can't think of anything for some reason haha.

I agree, it’s next to impossible to find anything comparable!
As for your recommendations, thank you!!- I’ve read shadow and bone. For the life of me I CANNOT get through the Red Queen series, I get stuck on book two around 6 chapters in and lose all interest, I have been trying since it came out, and even own the remainder of the series. Maybe someday I’ll push through.
I’m oddly not a fan of Marie Lu, I started Legends and it just kept pulling me out.
I am a fan of P.C. Cast- though admittedly I stopped reading HoN at like book 6 because enough is enough. However her Tales of a New World is just lovely and wonderful, as are her older works and Partholon series.
I will check out Warcross as well.
I’m just a fiend for YA even though I’m outside that age range, though I lean towards series not set in modern day with magic and mythical creatures. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I have 2 entire (overflowing) bookcases of books I have yet to read, I just can’t not buy books, but I’m always drawn back to my favorites and I’m trying to break my habits!

I forgot to mention these;
I’ve also read A kiss of deception- I loved that book/series!
Cinder- From my understand is a modern retell of Cinderella? I’ve never been a fan of series like that because then I’m comparing them continually to the actual story and I can’t find myself lost in the telling.

I'm obsessed with this series so I totally understand. The next few books I read after it seemed pretty blah. The main recommendation I would give is John Gwynne the faithful and the fallen series. Also obsessed. Just an amazing world and you fall in love with all the characters.
@Jessica I’ve read the fallen series(separate from what i think you’re recommending lol), however i own john gwynnes series, i just haven’t dived into it yet because the names on the first page made me think this is going to be a headache of “how do i say this” the whole time.
I used to work at a bookstore so i collected a vast sum of books that i haven’t read yet, but still none compare :/
I’m currently actively reading kingsbane, but maybe i’ll dip my toe into this as well

I do recommend Lunar Chronicles, it's great and next favorite series after TOG. Others include Shadowhunters Chronicles, anything by Julie Kagawa, love her, and Penryn & the End of Days. Currently reading The Night Circus and I'm enjoying it very much. Interested in fairy tales, try School for Good & Evil and Land of Stories, they are fun.
Keeper of the Lost Cities is good. I absolutely adored TOG and KOTLC was the only other series that came close. Also an ember in the ashes is good. I am on the 3rd book and am currently loving it.
Yes this is the exact thread I needed! Yea it's kinda impossible to find a book as good as this series but here are some I liked (I'm trying not do do repeats):
Rebel of the Sands
Shatter Me Trilogy
Catwoman: Soulstealer (also by SJM but you can also read the rest of the series which is by dfferent authors)
And also don't forget to read The Assassin's Blade!

I can't for the life of me get into the red queen series as well :((( the only books that are similar(ish) to tog that I have loved as much, are the Eragon books and The Fandom by Anna Day. The Cruel Prince was also ok and I'm about to read Clockwork Angel
I think Six of Crows definitely has a similar vibe to what you're looking for. I love the plot line and character development. It has a unique way of bringing in romance, I highly reccomend it if you havent already read it.
