//Aardvark//
Yes, We Treat Aardvarks by Robert M Miller
Aardvark seems a great place to start as in many dictionaries it is the first word listed and in addition the aardvark is a very curious animal indeed. Fascinating vet tales. Although disappointingly the author admits straight away he never actually treated an aardvark.

The Bear Went Over the Mountain by William Kotzwinkle
Love it or hate it this crazy tale challenges the imagination. Personally I'm reading it now and loving it. Having discovered a manuscript abandoned at the foot of a favourite tree a bear enters the publishing world, which turns out to be filled with sycophants who are willing to suspend belief in what their senses are telling them in order to humour the "successful" author. Thus when the bear starts repeating his favourite word in his rather limited vocabulary "honey" his agent assumes he is referring to sex and interesting developments follow....

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
Great game! And you clearly love words Shannon - great to see you in the "Thread of Words" too ;)

Amber, I think you need a title that includes an animal that starts with the next letter, H. (Following on from the gorillas in the last title). It's the animal that needs to start with H, not the book title. So you need a title with the word horse or hyena or something like that in it.
Ps You can save this title to use when it gets to R though!

It was for Rats, Gill.

K sorry. I didn't read the rules. I'm not going to play then. :(

K sorry..."
Oh, don't let that stop you playing Amber. It's always nice when you are on here.

We need a J animal in a book title. Any good ideas?
I wish I knew how to put pictures up in these threads. It would be great to have a picture of each animal listed.... You see I'm still a child at heart

The Jaguar Smile: A Nicaraguan Journey by Salman Rushdie
I read it years ago, but I did read it. :) Might sound like a nature book, but it's actually a non-fiction book about the Nicaraguan revolution and Nicaraguan poets.

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen"
I've had Water for Elephants on my "to read" list for a long time now. Do you recommend Gemma?

What Do You Do With a Kangaroo?
added you as a friend Gill. Thanks for the sweet Goodreads PM letter. :)

Rufus the Numbat by David Miller
I have to admit a bit of "cheating" with this one. I searched for "numbat" in Goodreads database, and this is one it came up with. But I've added it to my TBR shelf as it looks such fun! :D

The Panther & the Lash by Langston Hughes
A book of poetry by one of the most famous writers of the Harlem Renaissance in America in the 20's. I read it a while ago. As poetry, it was just ok, but regardless it's readable, engaging, passionate, and occasionally searing. In terms of Harlem Renaissance poetry, I prefer Countee Cullen and Claude McKay. But Hughes wrote some very readable collections of short stories as well.

Sacrifice for the Quagga God by J.T. Edson

Well I did cheat a bit, as I haven't read this book -- I looked at my dictionary for animals beginning with Q & then looked for a book with it in the title. But I agree that it is cool!

There are Quokkas (wonderful animals!) http://www.reshareworthy.com/quokka-h...

Heather, does the fact that you're thinking the Antipodean way account for the fact that you're doing the alphabet in reverse?
Oh dear! How embarrassing! I've been studying all day and I've had a brain fail. Was in a hurry to post the quokka link!

The Snake Eater by William G. Tapply
a gritty thriller I did not really enjoy

Xerus Won't Allow It by Richard Hefter
Yes I cheated too on this one. Part of a popular animals series for children.
What a great list of books so far! Well done everybody!

It's a pretty good read. I listened to the audiobook from librivox and enjoyed it. :)

Are we going back again? Trying for different animals with each letter (we may need to 'cheat' a few more times for some of the rarer letters)?

List books in alphabetical order of an animal in the title.
Top tips
1. Each book listed must contain the name of an animal ( or bird) ...... But need not necessarily be about that animal. For example Cuckoo in the Nest is fine even though it is actually about the author's return to the family home when struggling to launch her career.
The word "animal" does not count, nor other group names such as "reptile" or "insect." Mythological animals are very welcome.
2. An animal name MAY be repeated so long as the book is different.
3. Try to avoid children's picture books of animals ( of which thousands have mushroomed on kindle often with very little substance) or spotters guides . For example try not to include this type of book:
Penguins
This will make the game a challenging one rather than an exercise in listing animal picture books.
4. Try and choose a book you have read or are reading, and try to remember to use the Goodreads link above. If you wish please add a comment about the book and/or say why you have chosen it.
5. Feel free to skip over difficult letters.
6. Enjoy!
