Erunyauve | 167 comments This is coming up as full price in the US, but that's all right. I like a country house murder every once in a while, and I'm enjoying this so far.

Erunyauve | 167 comments 'He climbed in beside her, and almost immediately had his breath snatched away by Miss North's extremely progressive ideas on acceleration.'

I'm enjoying the writing immensely.

Chris (chrissieml) | 152 comments Yes, it is such a pleasure, isn't it? And not an F in sight!

I suppose it is worth noting that the book was published in 1934, the same year legislation was introduced to impose a speed limit of 30 mph in areas with street lighting, but new cars only had to have speedometers from 1937. So at the time of its writing, there were no limits apart from the capability of the car and the skill of the driver!

I was wondering just how 'fast' fast was. Apparently, Miss North's car is equipped with a speedometer, as she mentions that she's driving 60 mph at one point. (Of course, if you're on a narrow, curving, unpaved country lane, 30 mph is rather terrifying.)

Erunyauve | 167 comments I'm finding everything a bit confusing at this point - I don't want to spoil, and I'm not ready for the spoiler thread, so that's all I'll say.

I do like Nigel as our primary narrator, in any case.

AngryGreyCat (angrygreycatreads) | 554 comments I read this a while ago so I will probably pick up another in the series to read instead.

Beth Stewart | 644 comments Like you AngryGreyCat, I think I may have read this one a long time ago Not fresh enough in my memory to remember what happens so I will keep going.

Or was it made into a tv show??

Chris (chrissieml) | 152 comments There is a BBC TV series called The Inspector Alleyn Mysteries, and the second episode is 'A Man Lay Dead', which is based on the book, but moved forward in time to after WW2.
