Jess (xjessicax) | 2 comments I know people always say you shouldn't target authors for their work but I'm going to do it anyways. I really hate James Joyce. Really I only read one of his books, but I hated it so much that I almost killed myself. It was A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man AKA James Joyce writing about himself using the guise of a woke and horny young (also ex-catholic) man. It pissed me off so bad. I wish I could go back in time and punch him in the jaw.

also check this out. I would do anything to punch him in the face

Maybe Doris Kearns Goodwin, or Jon Meacham.

I'll fight you for the opportunity! :)

(either or both)

Adam Gopnik what an annoying twat

message 5: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Ayn Rand.

Phil | 11837 comments Bill O'Reilly. I would throat punch him in a dogdamn second!

message 7: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3594 comments Hillary Clinton, but I wouldn't beat her up. I'd just like to look her in the eyes and see for myself what's there.

message 8: by Karen (new)

Karen Armo Nicholas Sparks. More syrupy than pancakes.

CD | 1577 comments There's a growing list of professionally trained (MFA types for one example) that have language skills and no story to tell.

Another group that I've complained about previously elsewhere are the wannabe screenwriters. I've learned how to weed them out quickly. Their literary attempts are charaterized by 70-90 chapter books with only 1-3 pages per chapter. Or they may have only "Part X" designations with physical printing breaks every few pages. or god forbid, paragraphs!

Maybe I don't wish to punch as much as I want to just not have their scribblings cluttering the landscape.

I'd love to punch Stephen Colbert in the eye.

Really? What annoys about Stephen?

Everything.

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3594 comments A man after my own heart, Dr. D. Will he go after Biden as ruthlessly as he did Trump? It remains to be seen. If he does, I may change my mind about him.

I doubt it. They didn't breathe a word about Sleepy Joe on the last SNL.

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3594 comments I'd like to punch the NYT writer who suggested that Biden appoint a "Reality Czar." Here's a quote: “Several experts I spoke with recommended that the Biden administration put together a cross-agency task force to tackle disinformation and domestic extremism, which would be led by something like a ‘reality czar,'” technology columnist Kevin Roose wrote in an opinion article headlined “How the Biden Administration Can Help Solve Our Reality Crisis.”

Yep, let's waste some more American tax dollars!

message 17: by Gavin (new)

Gavin (gavinnn_n) | 15 comments I think J K Rowling deserves a nice punch in the face.

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 1970 comments At my age they all died.

message 19: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3594 comments I don't want to beat up Michelle Obama, but the book she wrote didn't reveal much except the fact that they smoked pot. Not really worth the read or the money she was paid that now supports an extravagant lifestyle for her and the man of the people.

message 20: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3594 comments Yep. Hillary.

message 21: by Alexw (new)

Alexw Thomas Hardy, author of Tess of the Turberville's and Jude the Obscure. Both are so horribly depressing.

message 22: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3594 comments In that vein, I'd add George Eliot, author of Silas Marner. I found it the most depressing novel. I'd never read it again. Although beating up Eliot might be overdoing it, whereas beating up Hillary would be most tempting :-)

message 23: by Brie (new)

Brie (aliciabrie) | 1 comments Mark Twain because he obviously deserves several sucker punches to the nose.

message 24: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3594 comments Right. Because he criticized the mores of his time. Maybe read his books.

message 25: by Jaye (new)

Jaye | 180 comments Karen Slaughter. Not so much beat up as just have her stop writing such awful violence against women.
The crazies don't need encouragement.

Example: the murder rape of a blind woman on a toilet

I was considering giving her Will Trent books another look (I read up through either Criminal or Unseen -- I'd have to look it up to be sure). The last one I read had an ending that came to mind when I read your comment. And it's why I didn't continue with the series at that time.

Pompous smarmy liberal asshole. I know, I know, there are a lot of pompous smarmy conservative assholes out there, too.

I don't watch Colbert anymore but it's not because of his political views, it's because I hate all celebrities. I just can't watch a celebrity at all. (Meaning the guests on the show.)

message 29: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3594 comments I get that. Not sure what bothers you about them, but I'm tired of being preached to by people who are insulated from what's happening in the real world. They're above it all with fences around their property, with armed security guards, with flying on private jets, with promoting tax increases that they can well afford.

message 30: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3594 comments I don't want to beat up Louise Penny or James Patterson, but what were they thinking? That making the Clintons fictional protagonists would make them good guys in real life?
