Should you ever have a spare 50 minutes this is a tremendous watch - a Man Alive doc from 1971 about BBC Radio 1 disc jockeys….

I'm assuming everyone is already familiar with the Hells Angel doc from 1973. If not....

Mark Rubenstein | 1510 comments I’ve not seen either, so thanks for the links. Will get round to each asap-ish.

Mark Rubenstein | 1510 comments Here’s one for you. Heavy Metal Parking Lot is a short documentary, filmed in the parking lot outside the Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland on 31 May, 1986, before a Judas Priest concert.

The 13 year old girl with the 20 year old guy. Yikes!

It's great stuff though. Interesting how 70s they all still look in the mid 80s. Only the jeans had changed.

It all reminds me of that Richard Linklater film Dazed and Confused

I didn't watch the other stuff yet - Monster Truck, Neil Diamond etc

I haven't watched it but I noticed this....

Mark Rubenstein | 1510 comments Yup, that's middle America for you. Always has been, always will be. Mark Twain famously said that when the end of the world comes, he’ll move to Cincinnati and live for ten more years.

All of the ones you pointed out are worth a look-in, to various degrees, but I reckon Heavy Metal Parking Lot was the best of them all. Linklater probably took notes...

Mark Rubenstein | 1510 comments I’ll cop to having watched most, but not all, of this one... courtesy some tasteful thief who posted it on youtube... Julien Temple’s The Ecstasy of Wilko Johnson...

That is absolutely wonderful Mark - I saw it on BBC4 and watched it twice. It's got the lot.

Not an old documentary but a spanking new video by those cheeky chaps Madness which I know, if he hasn't already, Mark will enjoy...

Madness: Past Present Future

The group stroll about Camden Town reminiscing about the good old days in support of their forthcoming three night stand at the Roundhouse

Mark Rubenstein | 1510 comments I caught that, strictly by luck, just before the weekend, and really enjoyed it.

In particular, it was nice hearing the old Compendium bookshop mentioned so fondly. I spent many hours and £s there... one of my all-time favourite bookshops, and sadly missed.

One minor correction, though. The stepped ramp where the cover of the first Clash album was shot is still very much there, and very recognisable. It's right across from the Modfather clothing shop.

Good correction Mark - I haven't got to that bit

Greg | 159 comments Nigeyb, this is a great piece.
Coffee with character.

London cafeterias 50's - 60's
from 'Look at Life'.
note the Le Macabre Coffee House 1950s.

Thanks Greg - will be watching that later today. I may well have seen it already, but who cares?

I dare say the folks around these parts are familiar with this already but if not I'm going to guarantee it will be a hit here.

Not a documentary but a somewhat startling very short interview from 1976 with Bon Scott and AC/DC in Covent Garden in 1976 during the heatwave of that year.

Check out Bon's outfit. You need some front to wander around central London dressed like that, and hang out in a pub, even during sweltering weather. Bananas are an obvious accessory too...
