This thread is for those who know the book or who have finished it. Write anything about the book, plot twists, endings and all, without worry.

Do not read this thread if you’re reading the book and don’t want the finish spoilt!

This July and August we’re reading: City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab

Tell us what you think!

Kirk (goodreadscomkirkc) | 114 comments While I don't generally like spooky stuff, I enjoyed this one. Ghost side kick, check. Grumpy cat, check. Potter references, check.

Katrina | 39 comments Generous 2 stars from me, bearing in mind I'm not the intended audience by a long shot. Thought the cat and the ghost sidekick were fine, if not a little underdeveloped.

Probably one of the few times, being familiar with a setting in a book has gone against me. Quite possibly the worst time of year to be reading a book like this as well.

Eh, can't win them all.

A fun adventure for early teens, (I know some kids who I could safely pass this on) with scary but not too horrifying ghosts. Anyone else breathe a sigh of relief that the the author avoided the adult themes of the Thomas Weir ghost?? He’s a bit too much!

It was interesting to have the shoe on the other foot with the American vs British sayings, like ‘cookie’ and ‘biscuit’, plus I didn’t realise fish and chips were such an oddity! I think the author’s love of Edinburgh shone through - even though there were a few cliches.

Quite an easy read, though one bit I didn’t see coming, I enjoyed it the little trip in spooky Edinburgh.

Sorry I picked this theme during Scotland’s Scorchio weather! It’s been so hot, not like wintry Edinburgh at all - I think I don’t realise other people don’t read spooky stuff all year round 🙈

I forgot to add too: I wish we saw more of the cat, Grimm! I would have quite liked for him to have rugby tackled the Raven ghost’s curling hair during the climax.. he could have tranced her with his shiny mirror-like cat eyes and save the day! Was irrationally disappointed this didn’t happen at the end 😂

Tarissa (inthebookcase) | 39 comments I am simply ecstatic that the "real, live" Greyfriars Bobby popped in and made his official appearance. So cute! I'm glad the author thought to include that bit. :D

Haha, glad I’m not the only one! :)

There's no bad weather for spooky content. Can make a lovely contrast at times. Wasn't the book at all, think the multitude of festivals this time year tends to warp associations:)
