Probably one of the few times, being familiar with a setting in a book has gone against me. Quite possibly the worst time of year to be reading a book like this as well.
Eh, can't win them all.
A fun adventure for early teens, (I know some kids who I could safely pass this on) with scary but not too horrifying ghosts. Anyone else breathe a sigh of relief that the the author avoided the adult themes of the Thomas Weir ghost?? He’s a bit too much!
It was interesting to have the shoe on the other foot with the American vs British sayings, like ‘cookie’ and ‘biscuit’, plus I didn’t realise fish and chips were such an oddity! I think the author’s love of Edinburgh shone through - even though there were a few cliches.
Quite an easy read, though one bit I didn’t see coming, I enjoyed it the little trip in spooky Edinburgh.

Sorry I picked this theme during Scotland’s Scorchio weather! It’s been so hot, not like wintry Edinburgh at all - I think I don’t realise other people don’t read spooky stuff all year round 🙈
I forgot to add too: I wish we saw more of the cat, Grimm! I would have quite liked for him to have rugby tackled the Raven ghost’s curling hair during the climax.. he could have tranced her with his shiny mirror-like cat eyes and save the day! Was irrationally disappointed this didn’t happen at the end 😂

There's no bad weather for spooky content. Can make a lovely contrast at times. Wasn't the book at all, think the multitude of festivals this time year tends to warp associations:)
Do not read this thread if you’re reading the book and don’t want the finish spoilt!
This July and August we’re reading: City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab
