I picked up this book because of a trip along the Danube that ended in 2 days in Budapest. After I realised its set in late 30s and the main characters are Jewish, I knew what would eventually come as I read on. The book did a good job easing me on and also get me invested in the characters. The way the author wrote about the way of lives of people at that time was what I love most. The kind of hardship and horrors the characters encountered during the war just made you wonder how human beings can be so crude to other human beings... just because they can.

My first book that 'touched' on the subject of holocast, and what a 'journey' its been! A recommended read for anyone who loves historical fictions and especially wants to experience Central Europe at that time.
