Oh wow, the audiobook is 26 hours! I will be reading this instead of listening, ha. Maybe in a few weeks?

See, this is the biggest obstacle in my listening to more books: it takes significantly more time to listen than read, and I'm a pretty impatient reader. LOL

I have to say though that Murakami does write some chunky books. I hope you enjoy this one. I'm a fan of his.

I have the same problem! ;)

That sounds like a great idea! I have to try it out.
I used to like Murakami very much and I've read most of his books (including this one). I think I get bored eventually. I won't be doing a rereading, but I will take a look at the discussion.
Like Amanda, I always speed up to 1.5. I listen to audiobooks while I'm shelving books at work, ha. So it doesn't really replace my physical reading. Most of the time I listen to audiobooks that are 8 hours or less since I only work at the bookstore one day a week now. And there are a lot like that!
This book is taking a while to get into. I'm at chapter 7 and not drawn in. It is very different from Kafka on the Shore, which captivated me right away.

I'm not going to give up on it, but if you are expected anything like Kafka on the Shore, so talking cats, ghosts, parallel universes etc you might be disappointed. Had I not been expecting all that, I might be liking the book more for what it is. I am only at 185 pages so it might change.

I'm about 60 pages in and am quite enjoying it. I like how weird the characters are. It's interesting how Murakami hooked me so fast when really nothing has happened! I'm switching between audiobook and print, so tomorrow I should be able to listen to a good chunk at work.

I ended up really enjoying it! Its like you say, even when nothing happens Murakami makes the most mundane things interesting.

Yay! I agree, though it hardly feels like Autumn yet here in the South. It was 95 degrees Fahrenheit today in Tennessee.
