Woohoo!

Greeting fellow chipmunks! Exciting times ahead :)

message 10: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments I've had no luck so far searching OverDrive for group 2 tasks.

Apparently Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1) by Tahereh Mafi and Smoke and Iron (The Great Library, #4) by Rachel Caine have LAVA in the text.
I think the fire from the dragon is hot, and the woman arguably so? I can take that one.

Also, in the count down, I'm up for listening to Only Human, which has a full cast narration.

Generally, are we going to try for group 2 tasks? They are the big points, after all....
And only reserve a couple of tasks at a time?

message 12: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments I think that 's a solid plan Cat.. and only reserving a couple of tasks at a time works.
I was having difficulty finding books for A & B of part 2 .

message 13: by Laura (last edited Jul 21, 2019 05:07PM) (new)

Laura | 9707 comments In the countdown tasks I can take # 6 in a series with lots of options:
Max (Cold Fury Hockey, #6) by Sawyer Bennett or Forever and a Day (Lucky Harbor, #6) by Jill Shalvis Sugar Cookie Murder (Hannah Swensen, #6) by Joanne Fluke Tied with Me (With Me in Seattle, #6) by Kristen Proby ....etc,etc

message 14: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments I finally found one that fits task 1 ; group 2
The Van Alen Legacy (Blue Bloods, #4) by Melissa de la Cruz . I'll read the previous books during wheel :-)

I agree with this as well. Seems like the best way to work these out.

I could cover the second task for group 2:
Read a book with a red cover (>50%) where the author contains the letters H-O-T (doesn't need to be in that order)

A Kiss of Shadows (Merry Gentry, #1) by Laurell K. Hamilton

And that'll be my book for the first week.

message 17: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10095 comments Mod
E, we need a book for the countdown from you first.

We've all got to do one countdown book, so put your group 2 book down for week 2?

message 18: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10095 comments Mod
So, group 2 tasks right now look like :

i Read a book with red writing on the cover where the title contains the letters L-A-V-A (doesn't need to be in that order). - Laura
ii Read a book with a red cover (>50%) where the author contains the letters H-O-T (doesn't need to be in that order). - E
iii Read a book with something hot on the cover (open to interpretation) and that contains the word LAVA in the text. - Cat
iv Read a book with something hot on the cover (open to interpretation) and that contains the letters L-A-V-A in the author's name (doesn't need to be in that order) - unclaimed

Ooooh, right, I forgot about that, sorry!

And that's actually a good thing, since it's a slightly bigger book and I don't have a lot of time that first week.

Ooookay, now let me see.

Countdown tasks

10 first published on the 10th of a month
9 with at least nine characters (need to have a speaking part, do not need to be main characters) - E (prob)
8 that has a carnivorous animal on the cover
7 written by an author who has published at least seven books (as listed on Goodreads)
6 that is number six in the series - Laura
5 that was first published in the 1950s
4 where the audio version has at least four narrators - Cat
3 that is part of what was originally a planned trilogy, but became a longer series (can include .5 books added later) - Sonia
2 that has two authors (as credited on Goodreads)
1 which is the author's debut novel

Without looking into the book since it's sitting at home on my shelf, I'm pretty sure that Allegiance of Honor can fit for task 9 with at least 9 characters with speaking parts.

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Hai Hai. So I had an unexpected getaway from RL this weekend after the work event and I feel amazing. Sometimes all we need is a friend's shoulder and a movie night.

Anyway.... Let me look at the countdown... The Great Library was initially planned as a trilogy and grew up. So was Hidden Legacy, so I can tackle that one if is not claimed yet. Will do a thorough analysis and will get back with more insight

Cat (cat_uk) | 10095 comments Mod
You've got the growing trilogy, Son! :)

message 24: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments So... I arrived at work... Late as usual just to find out that my laptop was not on its backpack but at home... So I'm on my second try... And on my third comutting trip today

Le sigh

message 25: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10095 comments Mod
hate when that happens!

With me I am liable to forget my hearing aids, especially if I started listening to an audiobook whilst getting ready. Getting to work to realise that I won't be able to hear people without looking really dim is not a great feeling!

message 26: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Yeah, that doesn't seem nice at all

message 27: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
Oh Great Library was supposed to be a trilogy? That really didn't work out all that well haha. There are, what, 5 books now? Or even a 6th? Can't even remember. I need to get a move on with that series, but the books always take me ages to read for some reason.

message 28: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments It was.... they decided against it around the making of book #3... probably was too much to wrap up. So they extended it to 5... not sure it's going to stay that way or not.

Book #5 will be out in.. September I think.... I just got the arc... so it might be it. Of course, I'm quite behind and still need to read books #3 and #4.

message 29: by Sonia (last edited Jul 22, 2019 03:49AM) (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Quick question... can I claim is hair is on fire so there's something hot on the cover?

message 30: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Well I can always claim is a hot cover... buuuuuut....

message 31: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10095 comments Mod
there are defo hot sparks going on in there, yes! and lava hot writing.

but then, I was going to but a lobster on my BBQ and you lot (not E!) rejected it :(

message 32: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
I really like that cover!

Definitely see some sparks in there as well, and the writing just looks like lava taking written form.

message 33: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments hot sparks... means there is something hot in there.

I never heard of barbecue lobsters.... but everybody has heard of hot sparks :P

Okay... Claiming last tasks of second round because I can definitely spell LAVA out of Aleksandr Voinov and there's hot sparks on Lars (Witches of London #1) by Aleksandr Voinov

Allegiance of Honor is definitely going to work or 9+ characters, if the list of characters at the beginning of the book is anything to go by haha. Practically everyone that the reader has encountered in the first 14 books of the series is going to make an appearance one way or another, so that's a minimum of 28 people already.

message 36: by Laura (new)

Okay, so, lets talk books.

Are we doing what? Countdown and Group #2, and that's it?

Looking at my ARCs, I can tackle both the carnivorous and former trilogy tasks.

And Lars for hot sparkles.

What more?

Yes, after reading 30 books for wheels, I suddenly feel like I'm not planning enough....

I'm not sure yet how much reading time I'm going to have next week. Work is looking like it's going to be quiet with the boss on holiday but one never knows here... and then I have a friend visiting for a few days as well.

I think I'll stick with just the one book in the Countdown tasks so you don't have to wait for me since you're reading way more books than me anyway (and I technically signed up with 1 a week hehe).
