Sally906 | 86 comments August - Author Appreciation Challenge

August 1st to August 31st

We show our appreciation to our authors in many ways - We sign up for their newsletters, follow (and interact with) them on various forms of electronic media, and sit front row and centre for any book tours they do - or forums they may be on at book festivals.

But the best way we can appreciate them is to read their books and promote them to other readers.

So the August challenge is to help show appreciation for our favourite authors and share with the rest of us just a few of your favourite authors.

Easy level: 4 books (at least 1 Aussie author)
Hard level: 8 books (at least 2 Aussie authors)

Read books written by your favourite author from the following list. You may mix and match at your leisure.

1. Show your appreciation for a favourite author by simply reading one of their books.

2. Show your appreciation for a favourite author who has a double identity (writes under more than one name/pseudonym) by reading TWO book by each (or any two) of their known "identities".
( examples: JD Robb & Nora Roberts; Stephen King & Richard Bachman; Dean Koontz = W H Allan = David Axton = Brian Coffey = Deanne Dwyer = K R Dwyer = John Hill = Leigh Nichols = Anthony North = Richard Paige = Owen West = Aaron Wolfe; Sandra Brown = Laura Jordan = Rachel Ryan = Erin St. Clair)

3. Show your appreciation for a still very new to you author (one whom you've only read a book or two from) by reading another one of their books for this challenge.

4. Show your appreciation for an author you love who has branched out into one or more genres that you haven't tried yet, and read at least one of those books.
(Eg JK Rowling (fantasy) branched our into mystery as Robert Galbraith)

5. Show your appreciation of authors who go the extra mile and do something extra (like include a recipe or short story at the back of the book or on their website) and read the book (and then make the recipe or read the short story).

6. Show your appreciation of new authors by reading a book by a complete "New to you” author who has been highly recommended to you by your family and/or friends and that you've never read a book by.

7. Show your appreciation of authors who team up to write a book or series by reading one of their collaborations (anthologies don't count). For examples, check out the Goodreads Listopia for Author Collaborations (Dynamic Duos) at: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/3...

AND DON'T FORGET

1. Our guidelines HERE

2. Please include pictures of the book covers especially when the task requires something to be on the cover - for example if you pick the task that needs a cat or a specific colour on the cover - then we need to see those covers as we don't have time to click on each link to go and check :)

Erin | 70 comments Hi everyone! I’m going for the Easy Level: 4 books, with at least 1 Aussie Author

4/4 Books Completed

✅ finished 17/8/19 - 4 Stars
1. Show your appreciation for a favourite author by simply reading one of their books.
Return to Zero by Pittacus Lore
This is the third and last of a sequel series, the first series spanned seven books and even more novellas between each of the main works. Not sure I’m quite ready to leave this world yet, but I suppose all good things must come to an end...eventually.

✅ finished 11/8/19 - 5 Stars
3. Show your appreciation for a still very new to you author (one whom you've only read a book or two from) by reading another one of their books for this challenge.
Good Girl, Bad Girl by Michael Robotham AA
Have previously read Bombproof and Life or Death. I’ll have this one done just in time for his meet and greet at my local library 😁

✅ finished 10/8/19 - 5 Stars
5. Show your appreciation of authors who go the extra mile and do something extra (like include a recipe or short story at the back of the book or on their website) and read the book (and then make the recipe or read the short story).
The Midnight Watch: A Novel of the Titanic and the Californian by David Dyer AA
This book contains a short story called ‘Eight White Rockets’ within the novel that is related to the main story.

✅ finished 13/8/19 - 5 Stars
6. Show your appreciation of new authors by reading a book by a completely "New to you” author who has been highly recommended to you by your family and/or friends and that you've never read a book by.
Update 11th August - I’m going to have to change this one. Originally I had picked a Colson Whitehead book but I haven’t moved up the holds list in weeks for The Nickel Boys and The Underground Railroad wait time is even longer 😩
A friend recommended a new book It Sounded Better in My Head by debut Australian author Nina Kenwood and so I am going with this book instead.

Return to Zero (Lorien Legacies Reborn #3) by Pittacus Lore Good Girl, Bad Girl (Cyrus Haven, #1) by Michael Robotham The Midnight Watch A Novel of the Titanic and the Californian by David Dyer It Sounded Better in My Head by Nina Kenwood

Alexandra Daw (luvvie) I'm going to try for easy:

1. Show your appreciation for a favourite author by simply reading one of their books.

I've been obsessed with David Nicholls lately so am going to try and read One Day and Sweet Sorrow

6. Show your appreciation of new authors by reading a book by a complete "New to you” author who has been highly recommended to you by your family and/or friends and that you've never read a book by.

For this one I have chosen Georgie Dent author of Breaking Badly and Max Porter author of Lanny and The Daughter's Tale by Armando Lucas Correa

18/8/19
So far this is what I have read in August:

One Day by David Nicholls 4★ 9/8/19
Breaking Badly by Georgie Dent 4★ AA 10/8/19
Lanny by Max Porter 5★ 10/8/19
