What drew you to this book and do you have conflicted feelings about it?

I must admit I questioned my own motives for being drawn to this book. I heard about it on the New York Times Book Review podcast on the 50 best memoirs of the last 50years in which they raved about how powerful and honest the writing was. That swayed me but also, the central question of how a person experiences a loss of this magnitude and manages to somehow go on living. At the same time though reading it did feel a bit voyeuristic. Did anyone else feel that way?

Hi, I read it for research into (natural disaster) PTSD for the book I was writing. I found it excellent for this purpose and also very moving. Maybe I would have felt voyeuristic if I hadn't had this motive. However, it educates people about PTSD and was written to be read, so don't feel guilty! Happy reading, Carl
