Help and welcome! I too love the classics, Dickens mostly and fantasy. For some reason I have been into Dr. Seuss lately. Been needing a laugh!

Welcome! We welcome all sorts of readers with their many tastes from all walks of life :) I too like the classics, SF, and many other genres. Feel free to post or start a topic on a book you're reading under book discussion :)

Hello!

Thought I would write a note to see what people are reading these days? Do you do a lot of reading over the holidays? Or do you do less reading?

I am taking a free course on Fantasy and Science Fiction books and short stories. Unfortunately it has taken me away from 'Game of Thrones' of which I was really enjoying, 'Dragonfly' only so- so.

I found that I really did not like 'Alice in Wonderland' even though I loved the Johnny Depp movie version, probably because of the artistic vision and my own art background. 'Dracula' was another book that I wasn't that thrilled with, only okay. Strangely enough I did like 'Frankenstein'.

This week we are reading short stories of Hawthorne and Poe, whom I have always been a fan of.

Anyway, just thought I should check in and say 'Hi'!

Happy Reading!

Matt | 6 comments I couldn't make it through Alice in Wonderland. One of the few books I didn't finish. I really don't get the appeal.

This is my time of year to really start doing some serious reading. My work is summer seasonal, and I've tried to make a goal of 52 books this year and I didn't realistically think I could do it mainly because of the summer months. However, I read a lot more than I thought. Now is my time to catch up, but I'm finding myself slipping. Whether it be laziness, or maybe burnt out I'm not sure. I'm just slowing down more and more. I've read 35/52, but I fully expect to at least read 40-45. Better than I thought.

Right now I'm reading some of Oscar Wilde's shorter stuff, and debating on quitting Live and Let Die by Ian Fleming. It seriously has some of the worst dialogue I've ever read. Not just because of its racism, but in the manner in which it's written. Really piss poor.

Anyways, yea. Sorry for the rant.

Rant away! I have never read any Ian Fleming so thank you, I will leave it off of my ever growing to read list. I only put my goal at 25 books so I could reach it. That may sound bad, but I don't want to fail. I think I only had 20 last year so I did up it a bit this year.

Before this class I was falling down on reading to, but this class has reminded me how much I do miss it. Just need to turn off the television!

Matt | 6 comments Casino Royale is worth a read. It's not nearly as bad.

I'm a sports nut, so I watch games and that's about it.

I got into the habit of turning the television on to keep my dog from barking at everything, I swear she can hear a fly fart across the street! Now I am into the crime shows, both fictional and true crime. And of course, our Dallas Cowboys!
