Zoe Radley | 558 comments thats a great list :) I especially like a certain justice by PD James absolutly classic :)

message 6: by Skye (new)

Skye | 2105 comments Rebecca is truly a beautifully written thriller with a touch of Gothicism and something else.

Helena Greenfield | 81 comments Great list. Afraid I haven't read hardly any of them (so I'll be adding some to my wishlist). Gotta agree with all the praise Rebecca has been getting. It's one of my favourite books. It's just really well written and the atmosphere in it is amazing. Great read.

S.K. Rizzolo (skrizzolo) | 63 comments I agree that it's the writing that elevates Rebecca. And I think Du Maurier creates powerful psychological suspense.

Great books on your list, Nell! I've read only three of them, and I'd like to read the rest.

Skye | 2105 comments "Last night I dreamt of Manderly..."

Such a memorable line. The whole books is just fantastic. Terrific read. (and the film is pretty great as well, though not in the same league as the book)

message 11: by Skye (new)

Skye | 2105 comments I read the novel several times and saw the film many times; Her name is never revealed: the narrator; amazing.

Skye | 2105 comments Joan Fontaine and Judith??? and Sir Laurence Olivier!!!
Wow

Nell Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
Now I have to read the book AND watch the movie - in that order. I'm sure I can find the film somewhere.

message 14: by IShita (new)

IShita | 186 comments Me too. I need to look for the physical copy of the book first!

Skye | 2105 comments They are SO good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Judith Anderson ----mind blower

message 16: by Helena (new)

Helena Greenfield | 81 comments Both are definitely worth the time. The actors were all really well cast - it's rare when they fit with how I imagined the characters, but they were just great in their roles.

message 17: by Skye (last edited Sep 25, 2014 01:40PM) (new)

Skye | 2105 comments Yes, I really agree, and the same with Jane Eyre and Joan Fontaine and Orson Wells, as well as Wuthering Heights with Tim Dalton

message 18: by Helena (new)

Helena Greenfield | 81 comments I agree with Jane Eyre, but I've never seen that version of Wuthering heights.Only ever seen the one with Sir Laurence Olivier. Love Timothy Dalton as an actor though.

message 19: by Skye (new)

Skye | 2105 comments Oh, Sir Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon were simply unnatural in the original movie: Cathy and Heathcliff are wild by nature; PLEASE rent the one with Tim Dalton--it is positively AMAZING; gasp; he is so very very good in ther role.

Nell The Tree of Death by Marcia Muller - pub 1983
Very good mystery set in Southern California. MC is the curator of a Mexican Art museum who becomes the prime suspect when the director is found dead. Classic locked room mystery - several suspects and motives but how did s/he get in and out of the locked museum?

The Tree of Death by Marcia Muller

Bill Rebecca and Beast in View are both fantastic. I've got some others of yours on my TBR shelf awaiting my attention. Excellent challenge.
