Please feel free to discuss what you've read for this month!

Keri (keri91) | 39 comments I read Spinning Silver this month, a re-telling of Rumpelstiltskin of sorts. I liked it a lot! I enjoyed the characters and the story. The writing could have be trimmed - it was really wordy and a bit rushed. But I recommend it!

Tejal (ohsodebonair) | 78 comments I read The Silence of the Girls which I really enjoyed. I felt it was actually a nice companion piece if you've already read The Song of Achilles as it touched on the Patroclaus/Achilles relationship a lot but didn't go as deep as TSoA so you could focus on Briseis as the main protagonist/an outsider to their relationship. I did find some of the dialogue a bit cringey at times because it was very modern, but on the whole, it worked for me.

Dainey | 69 comments I read Circe for this month, and while it was an entertaining enough a book, there were things that I felt stopped it being the epic it wanted to be.

One of those things was the endless humiliation conga of Circe getting done down, with very few moments where she was the one in the lead.

Another thing that annoyed me was the use of very contemporary grammar and language, despite trying to have everyone sound suitably noble and old-timey.

Plus, overall there was way too much thick-headed romance for my tastes, but that's just my personal issue.

Undine | 84 comments I read the first three books in the Lady Sherlock series by Sherry Thomas -- A Study in Scarlet Women, A Conspiracy in Belgravia, and The Hollow of Fear -- and loved them all. Holmes and Watson are women, and Holmes' sister is writing up her adventure with the specifics changed to those of the Arthur Conan Doyle stories. I loved them, can't wait for the fourth!

Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy A Graphic Novel A Modern Retelling of Little Women by Rey Terciero

A wonderful modern-day adaptation of my favorite book. I'm glad it ended at that part in the story, I think it was the perfect time frame for this GN. I loved, loved loved the added diversity to the plot. Well done!

Irene. (kittenbones) | 36 comments Wilder Girls ruined my goddamn month.

I got bored + annoyed with it so I kept putting it off and ended up not reading for half the damn month. Probably didn't help that I got an iPad so all I want to do is draw.

Before that though, I did read Little Darlings for the theme. And I didn't like it. 🙃 July sucked. 🙃

I read The Last Wish by Andrzej Sapkowski, the first of the Witcher books. There are a lot of different retellings scattered around the book, like Beauty and the Beast and Snow White. I thought they were very original, it was a great read.
