Chris Austin | 38 comments I, too, read chapter 2. So far, Im loving it.

Bilbo (mynostalgiclibrary) | 12 comments Every single time I start the Hobbit I am reminded of how much I love Tolkien’s narrative voice. It’s so charming, and just really begs to be read out loud. I find myself mouthing all the words as I go along, or sometimes even reading the best bits out loud to my dogs. I first read the hobbit with I was eight, with my mother. I have really fond memories of curling up together in a big plush armchair and taking turns reading the chapters aloud. Now, the older I get, the more and more I relate to Bilbo, and his love of food and distaste for uninvited guests! XD

Chris Austin | 38 comments When the dwarves sang about misty mountain, I played the song from the hobbit sound track. Really changed the mood.

TL *Humaning the Best She Can* | 11 comments Edward wrote: "I've been listening to the film soundtracks while I read :)"

That music <3 *happy sigh*
Dunno how much reading I'll get done today.. head is hurting again :( Still love rainy days but hate this side effect.. might try the audiobook later today

Sarah (is clearing her shelves) (sarahjf1984) I haven't read this in at least 15 years and had forgotten how funny it was. An Unexpected Party had me giggling out loud at 2 in the morning and after a 2+ month slog through some very boring ghost stories it was good to see that level of enjoyment return. I'm determined to be a 'good' buddy reader, so I'll be sticking to the chapter a day schedule.

TL *Humaning the Best She Can* | 11 comments Edward wrote: "Where's everyone at in the book?"

Page 57 right now.. been too tired to read but getting there slowly:) first ten days of the month are always crazy busy here.

:) least it's not so bad in my area tonight

J.B. (jb_taylor) | 12 comments As I have already read it I have opted for listening to thr dramatized version. It was the only version available through hoopla.

Sarah (is clearing her shelves) (sarahjf1984) I'm up to chapter five. I accidentally read a chapter during a trip to the toilet on Sunday and then couldn't resist reading the following one that night, so now I'm a chapter ahead of where I should be. I might hunt around for another book to read tonight, otherwise the days will never catch up with the chapters.

SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER THREE AND FOUR

My favourite part, so far, has been the trolls and how Gandalf defeated them. My least favourite part was what happened to those poor ponies : (

Well, today is day 5...so, that would mean chapter 5...yes? I liked Chapter 5. Riddle me some fun and a close escape! Loved it!

Bilbo (mynostalgiclibrary) | 12 comments I’ve been doing a chapter a day and I’m waffling a bit if I want to increase that to two chapters a day or on some days. One chapter is a really nice slice to enjoy every night, but I’ve got so many books to read in August lol

TL *Humaning the Best She Can* | 11 comments Edward wrote: "I read chapter six today. I'm trying to stay a day ahead in case something comes up and I can't read. Anyway, the goblins and gollum are my favorite parts until Mirkwood."

On chapter 9 now:)

Chris Austin | 38 comments I loved the animals at beorns house. My daughter laughed when I read that scene.

TL *Humaning the Best She Can* | 11 comments Edward wrote: "Such a cool section. The different sized seats for everyone is charming."

What did you think of Beorn in the movie?

Chris Austin | 38 comments Edward wrote: "Finished chapter 11 today. Even at a chapter a day I feel like I'm speeding through this book, even though this is the slowest I've ever read it."

I'm reading it slower. lol. Im just starting Chapter 9. This is my 5th read through.

Shawn Dawson | 26 comments Alight. I’ve decided to join you. Twist my rubber arm. I haven’t read it in years, although it was a big part of my childhood.

Shawn Dawson | 26 comments Excellent. I will catch up. See you in Middle Earth.

Chris Austin | 38 comments I just got to Lake-Town. Reading the book again makes me hate the movies. Such a good book.

Chris Austin | 38 comments Edward wrote: "I agree, Chris. The movies are terrible by comparison. I just hit chapter 13. Less than a week to go now. I'm so excited to start THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING. I haven't read LoTR since my teens!"

Same! I've collected the books and haven't read them again. So, I am also excited!

Shawn Dawson | 26 comments I’m catching up. On chapter 9. I’m in this for the long haul though. Should be where you are in a day or so. I’m really enjoying reading it again. Tolkien’s writing has a warmth to it. I think that’s why I like coming back to it.

I've never read a first chapter as gripping as the Hobbit's.

I agree. This book is a classic!

Chris Austin | 38 comments If you have Kindle Unlimited, the series is available.

message 31: by Bilbo (new)

Bilbo (mynostalgiclibrary) | 12 comments I finished the Hobbit today! I always see new details every time I read that book, and the language never gets old for me. It’s simple enough for kids to understand but artistic enough to never get boring. I believe this was a few chapters back so it shouldn’t be a spoiler for anyone still reading a chapter a day, but this time around I was really moved by Bilbo’s first trip down the passage inside the mountain, and how Tolkien wrote that it was the bravest thing he’d ever done. I will always and forever love Bilbo Baggins!

message 32: by Shawn (new)

Shawn Dawson | 26 comments I finished today as well.
