I'm going to be reading this too! I'm currently buried under the multiple books I started so why not add another? lol

Ashley Chen | 950 comments I just started the first 2 pages of this book and I don’t understand Rule 6: Once a queen enters the palace, she is never to visit her homeland again.

A good queen visits her people to see what is going on. Or that is what I think that is a good queen.

I don’t really get it??

Ashley Chen | 950 comments I'm at the beginning of Chapter 3, and so far the book is good. It reminds me of Divergent with the genetic engineering and quadrants aka. factions.

SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER 2 BELOW:

(view spoiler)

Ashley Chen | 950 comments I’m up to chapter 4 and I must say that I wish to learn more about Keralie’s backstory (about why she left her parents, like wth did she do? Like we know Kera pushed her father off a boat but like why??? And why isn’t she making up for it?)

I’m a very pro-obeying parents type (except when they’re wrong or detrimental to the child) so I do want to know more and to judge whether Kera should have left them or not.

There seems to be a lit of magical realism within this book. Especially within the character of Mackiel. I hope that I’m wrong and that’s just his personality of being manipulative and cruel. Since I believe that magical realism doesn’t really belong here.
