The Library Book by Susan Orlean

The Library Book by Susan Orlean

This non-fiction book is not just about the devastating Los Angeles Public Library fire of 1986 (and its aftermath), but about libraries and the people who work in them and visit them.

"Weaving her lifelong love of books and reading into an investigation of the fire, award-winning New Yorker reporter and New York Times bestselling author Susan Orlean delivers a mesmerizing and uniquely compelling book that manages to tell the broader story of libraries and librarians in a way that has never been done before..."

Is anyone reading this one? I ask because if we don't have any takers this month, I won't put up a discussion post.

Vickie (bookfan4ever) I am.😊👍

Candace (candywilliams) | 491 comments I really do want to read this, but can't this month. I'm reading Elizabeth I by Margaret George. It's 671 pages. I enjoyed George's Henry VIII "biography" so much, I just had to remain in the Tudor period (one of my faves, anyway!)

Perfectly fine, Candace! I wanted to get to it this month as well, but couldn't fit it in either. Enjoy your historical reads ;-)

Is this the discussion thread? I have been a bit busy and August has been a blur. But I just reserved this book, sadly there are two people in line before me, but I've reserved both the electronic and paperback copies. I look forward to hearing how you all found this one. I don't read many non-fiction, so this will be interesting. Hopefully anyway.

Vickie (bookfan4ever) Yep.👍😊

Vickie (bookfan4ever) I've fallen so far behind with this one, but I am still planning to get through it.😊 I'm definitely going snail mode with this!😉😏

I read it earlier this year. A bit meandering, like wandering in the stacks of the library, but interesting.

I've only just got my copy from the library. 🙄 But I'll still post my thoughts here, two months later.
