I just stumbled across this thread and was excited because I just started reading it. I'm only to the part where Ishmael and Queequeg board ship, so I'm going to wait to read your review Matthew, even though I'm curious about your 2 star rating. So far, I absolutely LOVE it!! It's informative, funny, philosophical and an interesting story. I'd give it 5 stars at this point but we'll see when I finish.

It might help that I have a lovely hardcover edition that I'm reading with many illustrations by Rockwell Kent. It certainly improves the reading experience!

I will say that I remember enjoying the beginning as well.
