Nadia | Lalibroadicta (lalibroadicta) | 2 comments Is the first time I'm gonna read The Hobbit.
In fact, is the first time I'm reading Tolkien I'm so excited!!!
Any recommendations for a new member of the fellowship? (:

John Rosegrant | 51 comments The Hobbit is absolutely the best place to start. Then Lord of the Rings I think. Welcome, and enjoy!

Nadia | Lalibroadicta (lalibroadicta) | 2 comments John, Anne Marie, thanks for the welcome!

I'm so glad I made the right choice!
I was doubting between The Silmarillion and The Hobbit, then saw the Group Read and took a chance ;)

Steve Bivans (stevebivans) | 21 comments Welcome Nad,

Our family has been slowly reading through The Hobbit for a couple months now. I've read it several times myself, but it never gets old. I need to get the whole 'history' series and read it. I've read selections from it, here and there, but never the whole thing.

I would echo the advice of everyone, that reading the Hobbit first makes sense, then LOTR, then personally, I would read the Silmarillion, and then Children of Hurin, but you could switch that order. The Silmarillion can be tough to get through for some people, especially the first half, which is very 'mythical.' It is essentially Tolkien's 'creation story' of Middle Earth. I love it, but it's not the coherent narrative that you get from the Hobbit and LOTR, or Children of Hurin.

Maria Rosa | 3 comments I've read the hobbit x times and am just reading the kindle enhanced edition with jrrt drawings and himself reading some poems. It's fun.
