Kirsten (kmcripn) I got my most recent package from betterworldbooks.com:

Finding Mr. Right by Emily Carmichael Termination Dust (Alex Jensen / Jessie Arnold, #2) by Sue Henry The Dogfather (A Dog Lover's Mystery, #15) by Susan Conant

Lynn Renee | 219 comments So far this month I have only purchased one book which has been a monumental goal for me. I purchased Dear Daughter by Elizabeth Little for $1.99 so I will be able to participate in the October group read. I am doing the free trial of Kindle Unlimited and went down to the library and got a library card for the first time in 30 years. I have decided to make a major effort to lower my book purchase cost which has been running $60 to $100 a month. Hopefully when the Kindle Unlimited trial is over they will continue to accept my payment of $9.99 a month with my bank card,if they don't I will be back to purchasing more books. I have been sitting on my hands when I have the urge to buy a book lol.

Something for me to think about. Looking forward to seeing you in the October read.

Thanks for that link, Kristen. I'd never heard of Better World Books and just bookmarked the site for future purchasing. It looks great!

I was thinking of buying One Kick by Chelsea Cain when it was $4.99 but backed off. I wasn't sure if her books would be too violent for me. I think I would give it a shot when the price comes down again.
Have to get into Kathy Reichs. I have her first book and really enjoy Bones.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm not sure on this book One Kick, it's the first in a new series. Cain's other series, which is the Gretchen Lowell series, is very violent. It's one of my favorites but if you don't like very much violence, you may want to avoid it.

The Temperance Brennan series I do like. I haven't read them all but I like most of what I have read. I love the show, also, but the books are quite different. Lots of forensics if you like that.

message 9: by Betty (new)

Betty (bettylouise54) | 123 comments I like the Temperance series and will read them. I like the forensics very much. A good Mystery will teach about a subject.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

One Kick by Chelsea Cain fell to $4.99 so I bought it. Also bought Shadow's Son by Joe Sprunk

Shadow's Son (Shadow Saga, #1) by Jon Sprunk
One Kick (Kick Lannigan, #1) by Chelsea Cain

Betty, if you like forensics, have you read the Lincoln Rhyme series by Jeffery Deaver? That's one of my favorites series. The first is The Bone Collector.

Great deal, Ron! You will probably read it before me. All the books that I have coming are Christmas presents that I bought for myself that my husband will give me. He hates shopping so I buy what I want him to give me and all he has to do is wrap. Sometimes I have to do that, too, but I insist he fill out the tag.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't know if I'll read them before you Kathryn. I have 20 screens in my kindle with 9 books on each screen. The only good thing is that I didn't spend more than $1.99 a book in most cases. $4.99 for the Chelsea Cain book was higher than the others.

Read it a few days ago, solid 5star for me, spoiler-free review and a comment to that after reading other reviews. Seems to be a love-hate-book.
Regarding violence, there is some, and some may find it disturbing. And talk about how to torture. It will be interesting to see how you like this book (or not).

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

I appreciate the heads up on this. Will keep it in mind when I read this book. Not sure when that will be.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Here are some books that I picked up from the library.
The Private Patient (Adam Dalgliesh, #14) by P.D. James
Odd Apocalypse (Odd Thomas, #5) by Dean Koontz
Dead Man's Grip (Roy Grace, #7) by Peter James

20 screens with 9 books on each screen? I'm confused...

I've got THE PRIVATE PATIENT on hold with my library's Overdrive site. Can't wait to read it. Then I'll be caught up with Adam Dalgliesh.

I should have said that on the home page of my kindle, each screen has 9 titles. It says 178 items. That's how many books I have on my kindle right now. Sorry for the confusion.

message 20: by Lynn Renee (new)

Lynn Renee | 219 comments Ron do you use the collections option on your Kindle? I have 365 books on my Kindle, unfortunately there is always another book to buy and add to my collection. lol Seriously, I could not buy a book for over a year and be set for reading material.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

Not sure what my collections option is. I have the lower level Kindle that was $80.00. I feel the same way that you do about buying another book.

message 22: by Lynn Renee (new)

Lynn Renee | 219 comments Ron, If you press on the book and hold it should pop up a menu that gives you the option to add it to a collection. Then you can press on the menu and use the option to add a new collection. You Title your collection however you wand to, I will use the name of a series and by what author. Once the collection is made you can then add all the books in a series to that collection which then puts them in one place. When you open the collection like you would a book it then shows you all the books that have been added. I use this feature a lot.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll have to check this out. Thanks.

message 24: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Yeah, I remember the collection feature on my older Kindle Wi-Fi. Very handy. I have a Kindle Fire now and it doesn't have that.

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

Should be a good one along with the Q&A with her.

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

Darkness & Shadows by Andrew E. Kaufman
Francona The Red Sox Years by Terry Francona

I have to say that for me, it's important to put books on my kindle wish list. The price can drop drastically at least 90% of the time. Darkness & Shadows has been $4.99 for a while and I picked it up yesterday for $1.99. The Francona book has been $12.99 and I picked it up yesterday for $2.99.

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm the same Ron, the price always drops at some point and it's great to snap up those bargains. You end up getting about 3 books for the price of one :-)

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

I have to look for more books to put on my wish list as a result.

message 32: by Julie (new)

Julie Ounanian (julzounanian) Thanks for the wish list idea.

I have books downloaded to my Ipad thru Kindle and Nook. But I still have so many other books to read before I can start those.

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

No problem. I guess we can never have enough books.

message 34: by Lynn Renee (new)

Lynn Renee | 219 comments Wow... To me the collection feature comes in so handy. I would be going nuts trying to keep track of what books go where without it. Doesn't make sense that Amazon left it off the fire.

message 35: by Lori (new)

Lori (beachmom4) | 4 comments Hi Ron, Did Amazon notify you that the price dropped OR do you check your wish list every day?

The first book of the series, The Lion, The Lamb, The Hunted is also $1.99 now.

Thanks for posting this.

message 36: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Picked up the following at the library yesterday:
The Nixon Defense What He Knew and When He Knew It by John W. Dean Hour of the Red God by Richard Crompton The Christie Curse (Book Collector Mystery #1) by Victoria Abbott Arcadia by Lauren Groff Dark Harvest by Norman Partridge Dead and Loving It (Wyndham Werewolf, #5; Undead, #4.5) by MaryJanice Davidson Stardoc (Stardoc, #1) by S.L. Sometimes, Amazon does let me know of a price drop but those books aren't on my wish list all the time. For example, i did buy 8 Jim Butcher books for $1.99 each. That was for the series 2-10. I was also alerted to books for Camilla Lackberg and Andrew Gross.
Other than that, I just make a run through and check to see if the prices dropped.

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

I just picked up these three books on Kindle for $3.99 each.

Intent to Kill by James Grippando
Intent To Kill by James Grippando

Out of Range by Hank Steinberg
Out of Range A Novel by Hank Steinberg

The Dummy Line by Bobby Cole
The Dummy Line (Jake Crosby, #1) by Bobby Cole

Sharon Mensing (sharon_mensing) The Body in the Piazza A Faith Fairchild Mystery by Katherine Hall Page from Paperbackswap.

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

Paperbackswap seems interesting. Wish I could take advantage of it but my eyes can't take hardcover and paperback books that much so have to go with Kindle.

message 41: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Mensing (sharon_mensing) I understand that. I don't even bother with mass market paperbacks, but usually find that trade paperbacks or hardcovers are OK. Sometimes I get one where the print is too small, and then I just send it straight back into circulation. The ability to change print size is a huge advantage with the Kindle.

Brian Poole | 5 comments I have on tap: The Magnificent Ambersons by Booth Tarkington, The Odessa File by Frederick Forsyth, The Nutmeg of Consolation by Patrick O'Brian and The Absent One by Jussi Adler-Olson. Hmm, somehow my pile's down to under a half-dozen. I may need to go book shopping.

I totally agree about changing the font size with my Kindle. At the moment I'm reading a paperback from the library and am going through some major adjustment not being able to increase the print size. I've caught myself touching the page for it to turn too. (shaking head in shame) Requested large print versions on a few books I am waiting for, hopefully that will help.

The Odessa File. That takes me back. Great book.

Lynn Renee | 219 comments Taking the paperback book back to the library... giving up trying to read the small print. Eyes getting older can be a pain sometimes.

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Just bought The Art Forger by B.A. Shapiro and Sweet Tooth by Ian McEwan at Audible.com's 2 for 1 sale this morning. Also, found War of the Whales A True Story by Joshua Horwitz on special at Amazon's Kindle Store for $2.99!

I start getting "panicky" when my stack of books gets below about 10. :-)
