Creative Reviews discussion

I tend to collect an entire series of books and read them one after another. I can't imagine that I am the only one who does this. I was wondering if others would like an area in Creative Reviews where a series could be reviewed as a whole (or at least as far as one has read). I have become quite the fan of L J Sellers' Detective Jackson series. When I write reviews, I don't do spoilers. I would rather entice readers to read a book just because I have appealed to their curiosity.

For example, after reading CRIMES OF MEMORY, I posted this review on Amazon:

I really enjoyed this (CRIMES OF MEMORY), and the seven books in the Detective Jackson Mystery series that precede it.

I don't do spoilers, but I will say that this is the eighth police procedural in a series that takes place in Eugene, Oregon. Ms Sellers is a Eugene native, so I tend to think that she writes from a place of first hand knowledge of the attitudes and policies of her home town. I visited Eugene a while back and was told more than once that Eugene has some strange politics - hippies on one side of town and rednecks on the other. I found Eugene to be a totally charming place to visit.

The main character is a man with a story filled with family and flaws. He could be a real person. I would add that this is a series that needs to be read in order. Although each mystery could stand on its own, the back story of Jackson, his family and his co-workers continues pretty seamlessly from book to book.

I hope that this series continues. I will read them all.

I think such reviews would be beneficial to both authors and readers because it promotes many books instead of just one.

Sometimes I do. The series I mention above, consisted of 8 novels when I started it, so I still have a couple of them to read.

When I was a teenager, I read Ian Fleming's DR NO, and once I had accumulated all of the James Bond books by Fleming, I read them over and over. I don't much do that anymore.

Stephen King's Dark Tower series is another that was impossible to wait for the end (which seems to have never actually come).

Whenever possible, I do try not to read books in series just because they are on the best seller list. I really do enjoy reading epic novels anyway, so waiting for a series to end provides me great joy. I don't have to lament the end of each book as I can go right on to the next one.

The Great Book of Amber is defintely on my to be read list :)
