25% in: (view spoiler)[ So far so good. I really like how outspoken Layla is, and I have a feeling she is going to stand up for everyone eventually. I really liked the quote in chapter 6: "Praying is important. But you can't simply pray for what you want. You have to act" This is applies to many of our issues today. I also felt like this is foreshadowing what Layla might do. (hide spoiler)]

60% in: (view spoiler)[ I'm really happy that everything Layla is doing is working out! The story is so intense and everything Layla is doing is scary because of the risks. (hide spoiler)]

Finished: (view spoiler)[ I really liked the story in general, but some parts were really slow & unnecessary. I think the style of this writing was boring to me. Also, I didn't like how Layla would risk her family's danger just to see her boyfriend. I understand that she loves him and that she was frustrated with everyone going along with it, but she did it without much thinking about her family's safety. Overall, I thought it was a powerful story though. (hide spoiler)]

I'm on page 206. I'll try to find time to read and write comments tonight.

Honestly, I've been stuck on my school books. I'm only 50 pages in but hope to make more progress now!

Ok..just finished chapter 7.
(view spoiler)[ I like the book so far. I like how the story is kind of based in real events and how it's also relevant today. It always makes me angry to read this kind of books. I can't understand how some people think they have a right to treat others as they do. I get it's fear and all that but still.
Anyway, I like Layla, and like Hana Michelle said, I also feel like Layla will start to act instead of praying. I wonder what part the guard with the compass tattoo will play. He seems like he's not really into this internment thing. (hide spoiler)]

Finished chapter 23

So far I like this story. (view spoiler)[ I think this book is very timely because nationalist and outright racist political views seem to be gaining support in so many countries these days. It's not that unrealistic an idea that something like this would actually happen. I mean, it has happened before and, of course, it's still happening in some countries. (hide spoiler)]

I like Layla's character. (view spoiler)[ I'm happy that she decided to really do something to get her story out. It also looks like the hunger strike was a success despite the consequences. What I don't get though, is why everyone at Layla's block was so quick to point out that Layla participated in the hunger strike while completely ignoring the fact that Ayesha was there too. (hide spoiler)]

I just finished chapter 20.

(view spoiler)[ I agree that something like this happening is not unrealistic at all, guess that's one of the reasons the story works.
I'm also glad Layla decided to get the story out. I like how it's something a prisoner in such a camp could actually do, and often does. It doesn't always need to be a full blown rebellion to make things interesting. As Hana Michelle said, high risks are involved in all the things that Layla does, even if they might seem to be small things. Didn't read Katriann's comments about the hunger strike because I haven' got that far yet 😄 (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 27
(view spoiler)[ Yeah, I wonder why everyone seems to be pointing at Layla, the other people of her blog and the director are all blaming her. Well, the director thinks she knows about the leaked articles, and of course he knows she knows about the instagram post.
The silent protest was a good idea and I'm glad some adults are joining in too. I just have a bad feeling about what the protest will mean for Layla. I don't think the director will let this one slide anymore. (hide spoiler)]

Yeah I agree! It is definitely relevant to today especially.

I finished this almost a week ago but never got around to writing comments. Anyway, I agree that this was a little slow. I felt like it took a long time for things to pick up.

I also liked the (view spoiler)[ silent protest. I could easily imagine it as a scene in a movie. I think the acts of resistance the prisoners performed were believable which was great. (hide spoiler)]

I agree that (view spoiler)[ it was selfish of Layla to put her family at risk the way she did. It was a bit weird how she was always thinking she doesn't want to cause more suffering for her parents but then she would break the camp rules just to see David. (hide spoiler)]

I also finished this some time ago and I pretty much agree with what you have said. In general, I'm happy this types of books are being published in an increasing amount. They are informative as well as thought-provoking.
