Please post your general questions about the Fall 2019 Challenge here. Specific questions about individual tasks should be posted in the Help Threads for those tasks. You may find answers to some questions in FAQs.

Cat (cat_uk) | 3382 comments no "Fit this book thread" this season? I know that it's early, and that I've no points on the board, but I'm already feeling the need!

Aprilleigh (aprilleighlauer) | 1261 comments OK, I've got an odd one (maybe) for you. I hope I'm not just picking nits here, but I'd rather ask and have you tell me it doesn't matter than assume it doesn't and be wrong.

I've got a few dozen books on Kindle (and access to more through my library), but since I prefer to read a physical book I usually grab a copy from the library (or my own shelves since I have duplicates of several) and read that, saving the Kindle version for continuing at night or while traveling.

I've been reporting titles as the physical edition in hand even though I've been switching back and forth for some of them. In every case so far it hasn't mattered because either the task was about the author or title or some other detail that doesn't change from edition to edition or I ended up reading the entire thing from the physical edition.

What do I do if I end up with a book where I've switched back and forth between the two editions for a task that cares about the cover or the page count, either of which might be different?

For example, I have both the Kindle The Moche Warrior (Lara McClintoch Archeological Mystery, #3) by Lyn Hamilton and hardcover The Moche Warrior (Lara McClintoch Archeological Mystery, #3) by Lyn Hamilton editions and am considering using this title for the task requiring yellow letters on the cover, because my preferred hardcover edition has the author's name in yellow. Is this acceptable even if I read a few chapters on the Kindle version at night, or do I need to stick to the hardcover all the way through if I want to use it for that task?

Good question! I switch back and forth sometimes, too. Fundamentally, all editions you read need to meet the criteria for the task. Tasks that rely on author or title details most likely won't be affected by switching back and forth. But a cover task might.

For the task requiring yellow letters on the cover, all editions would need to have yellow letters on the cover and you should include all covers in your completion post. So, in this case, yes, you would need to stick to the hardcover all the way through if you wanted to use it for that task because the Kindle edition doesn't fit.

Julia (julia103) | 2718 comments Does any know how often AR Bookfinder is updated?

I picked up a book on the New Books shelf at the public library today published September 24th 2019 which has MPG Childrens>Middle Grade. (The library also classifies it as Children's non-fiction.) The author has 12 books listed on AR Bookfinder, but this one isn't on it.

I know I can use it for 5.10 if it has MPG Children and isn't on AR Bookfinder, but it also fits somewhere else so I'm wondering whether it might get added before the season ends.

Aprilleigh (aprilleighlauer) | 1261 comments I'm missing a Golden Oldie (my fault, I was so focused on getting the AR information inserted that I forgot to add it - it's in my totals at the bottom of the post, but not "claimed" otherwise) - what's the best way to correct that?

Thanks Sandy, will do that now.

Emily | 782 comments I didn't see anything about this in the Rules (but may have missed it) - if we have the individual issues of a comic book and read all of the parts included in a collection, can we claim the collection?

Specifically, the book Sparrowhawk is made up of issues 1-5. I have 1-5 as individual issues. Can I claim the book if I read all 5 issues, or do I have to have read the collected book?

I totally understand if this isn't allowed. I was just curious how this worked.

Sorry, no. You'll need to read the book that is listed on Goodreads.
