Read a book that one of our members read for a sub-challenge within the last year (Fall 2018-Summer 2019).

10.2 Book Lover's Day

Read a book shelved at least 15 times as Books about Books.

10.3 Andre Gide

In honor of André Gide's 150th birthday, read a book whose title is "The ______" no subtitles on this one.

10.4 Replay

Read a book that would have qualified for a task from last season. This task cannot be used for combo points. You may use this task only once.

10.5 Banned

In honor of Banned Book Week (Sep 22-28), read one of the top 250 from the list Best Banned, Censored, and Challenged Books.

10.6 WWII

Germany's invasion of Poland on Sept 1, 1939 was the opening salvo for WWII.

Read one of the top 150 World War II Fiction or one of the top 100 Best World War II History (non fiction).

10.7 A, E, I, O, U, sometimes Y (Anika's Task)

Read a book by an author whose name contains four of the six accepted English vowels.

Example: Jane Hamilton would work (four unique vowels: a, e, i, o), while Agatha Christie would not (only containing three unique vowels: a, e, i).

10.8 Double O (Ed's Task)

Read a book with a word in the title or subtitle with two consecutive letter Os.

10.9 Science! (Mary's Task)

In honor of Marie Curie, the only person to receive a Nobel prize in two different science disciplines (physics and chemistry), read a book classified as science or mathematics by any library. The books in the following classifications qualify: Dewey Decimal class 500-599 or Library of Congress class Q. If your source for the classification is not BPL, please provide a link in your post.

If your chosen book is shelved only in a library that doesn't use either the DDC or LOC system, please post in the help thread with a link, and we will consider your choice.

In honor of Something to Answer For, the inaugural winner of the Booker Prize, read any winner of the prize or any short- or long-listed title. List of titles can be found here.

20.2 Wolf Hall

In honor of Wolf Hall (2009 winner), read a book set (at least 75%) or published in the 16th or 17th century.

20.3 Author

In honor of Hotel du Lac (1984 winner), read a novel where the central figure is an author (either real or fictional), OR a biography of an author.

20.4 Boomer

In honor of The Line of Beauty (2004 winner), read a book written by a baby boomer (born 1946-1964)

20.5 Non-Linear

In honor of The English Patient (1992 winner), read a book with a non-linear narrative.

20.6 Monster Redux

In honor of The Old Devils (1986 winner), Read a book with one of the following in the title: Devil(s)/Demon(s), Witch(es), Vampire(s), Zombie(s)/Undead, Ghost(s), or Werewolf(s).

20.7 Spec Fic

In honor Lincoln in the Bardo (2017 winner), read a book shelved as speculative fiction by at least 20 GR users.

20.8 Periodic Table (Owlette's Task)

This year is the 150th anniversary of the Periodic Table of Elements.

Read a book written by a single author whose first and last initial match a chemical symbol in order (e.g., Fe). For this task, authors with only a first and last name would be eligible (as listed on the GR page). Not eligible: authors with a listed middle name, hyphenated name, or listed middle initial(s). Include the chemical name in the post.

20.9 Shipwrecked! (Kate S's Task)

Read a book about a shipwreck. The wreck should be a major part of the story, not a minor detail of afterthought.

20.10 Difficult (Elizabeth (Alaska)'s Task)

Read any of the top 200 from the list Most Difficult Novels.
