Our theme/prompt for October will be:
FAIRY TALES & FOLKLORE
I know this is quite the bit tricky and really wide as ranges go. Some Bullet Point Info to help you decide if you have a book fitting this Theme: (view spoiler)[
➡ Folklore:
• Folklore is traditional customs, beliefs and stories of a community passed through the generations by word of mouth.
• Fairy Tales and Folktales are part of Folklore.
➡ Fairy Tale:
• Fairy Tales are stories involving fantastic forces and beings.
• Fairy Tales generally have happy endings.
• Fairy Tales deals with characters that have supernatural powers (such as witches, fairies, elves, giants, gnomes, dragons, trolls, mermaids, goblins, dwarves etc.).
• Fairy Tales are not realistic; they have imaginary characters and settings.
• The term "Fairy Tale" usually refers to stories with European origins. Some examples of this genre are: Cinderella, Snow White, Vasilisa the Beautiful, Jack and the Beanstalk, Beauty and the Beast etc.
➡ Folktale:
• Folktales are characteristically anonymous, timeless and placeless tales circulated orally among people.
• Folktales may not have a happy ending.
• Folktales deals with ordinary human characters.
• Folktales may be realistic and reflect realistic settings and backgrounds.
▶ The main difference between Fairy Tales and Folktales is that Fairy Tales are stories that involve magic and imaginary creatures whereas Folktales tend to reflect the real life experiences of people. ◀
