book takes place in the future. all the cities are run down and overgrown with plants and wildlife. At some point during the book some young adults go on a mission and they end up having to group with the soldiers. During the mission they have to cross a bridge or something and they're hiding from someone dodging bombs and bullets and what not. I remember reading the book around 2013-2014 ish. Sorry if this is not much to go on. i vaguely remember stuff but not any distinctive details.

This one (found searching online) more or less fits your description!Partials by Dan Wells. It was published in 2012.
Partials are "engineered organic beings identical to humans". The readers also mention a group crossing a bridge, bombs and guns.
I'm glad this is the book you were looking for! I think it's the first in a series.
