YOU GUYS!!
I have woefully neglected this book club and I've missed it!! So I'm getting back in the game.
I'm working on updating the reading list and timeline, based on all the new information that's come out since last we read together.
I'm currently working my way through Master and Apprentice if anyone wants to jump on that with me or start a discussion thread!!
And I hope to read lots of amazing books with you in the coming year.
Happy Reading!
-Lizzie

Justin (jtefft) I loved Master and apprentice.

chamomile_court | 9 comments I'm new to this group so I am so excited to start! Are you going through all of the Star Wars canon books? When did you start this group so I can see if I can catch up. Thank you

message 4: by Justin (new)

Justin (jtefft) Welcome to the group, Courtney. We have gone through most of the new canon and are mostly up to the last publishing year or so. We all work at various paces, but mostly try to stay on the current book so we can discuss it as a group. Hope that helps.

chamomile_court | 9 comments Yes it does! Thank you!! I’m so excited to get into the Star Wars books and learn more about the world of SW!

Welcome Courtney!! When we started, The Phantom Menace was the first book on our list and we started there. Which is a really good place to start to sort of ground yourself in the Star Wars universe. But if you want to start with the actual timeline then Dooku: Jedi Lost (an audiobook experience what will be published as a script) is the official beginning of the Disney canon timeline. The audiobook experience is out now and the script will be published in hardback on Oct. 1st.

But Master and Apprentice is next on the official timeline, which we're reading right now if you want to join in on that!! :)
I hope that helps!
Also, this community is great and will be here for any questions you have about where to start and what to read!
Happy Reading!
-Lizzie

Hey Tom!! welcome to the group and so glad you found us!! If you are interested in Star Wars reading, you are most definitely in the right place!!! And if you have any questions, this group is so helpful about places to start, books to love, etc!!!
And it's a safe space to talk about Star Wars which seems like something harder to find these days!!
So, welcome!!
and happy reading!!

Kellie | 68 comments I’ve been here for awhile but reading has been alluding me since my mom has been in the hospital for a broken hip and then other issues with her health have popped up. I’m hoping to get back to reading especially Star Wars books because I am a big fan.

So sorry to hear about your mom! Perhaps audio books are what you need to escape life and enter the Star Wars Universe. ;) Happy reading! (or listening!)

Justin (jtefft) I’m actually on book 2 of the Darth Bane trilogy at the moment. That’s a very good series.

Prior to that I finally read Darth Plagueis. I was blown away by that book.

Rob (rmdriskill) | 6 comments Courtney wrote: "I started listening to Dooku: Jedi Lost by Cavan Scott. Who else started it?"

I waited until the transcript was released and read along while listening to the audiobook. A bit of an awkward way to do it but it was quite enjoyable and helped differentiate characters as well as inner monologue from spoken parts. As for the actual plot I found it to be fantastic for what it was!

I started Dooku: Jedi Lost yesterday. Super fun so far! I love full cast audiobooks and I also love Star Wars audiobooks; this one is both!

I enjoyed the old Thrawn trilogy and the new Thrawn trilogy. He's a fascinating character, imho.

TAMRA L | 4 comments Hello. I'm new to the group. I just recently finished reading Zahn's new Thrawn trilogy and I absolutely loved it! I'm a huge fan of the old EU and leary about reading the new cannon books because I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about them. So I'm curious to see what everyone's opinion is on them. Are they any good and which ones are everyone's favorites?

message 38: by Justin (new)

Justin (jtefft) I loved the legends books, but the new stuff seems more meaningful to me. Maybe just because I know it’s canon. There’s been some really terrific stuff and some stuff that isn’t as good, but I think it’s all worth reading. Welcome to the group!

message 39: by Kaleb (new)

Kaleb Catron | 6 comments Personally the only canon book I’ve read is Tarkin by James Luceno. Other than that I’ve only read legends. Right now I am on Dark Force Rising and plan on reading the New Thrawn trilogy next.

message 40: by Kellie (new)

Kellie | 68 comments Welcome Tamra! I’m not sure about the canon books I don’t know what they are.

I just finished the new Thrawn trilogy and I thought it was amazing. If you liked the Legends Thrawn trilogy you'll enjoy these. Zahn does a great job incorporating Thrawn into the new canon without it being confusing to those (like me) who have no experience or exposure to it.

TAMRA L | 4 comments Kellie wrote: "Welcome Tamra! I’m not sure about the canon books I don’t know what they are."

The canon books are all those written/published after Disney took over. So anything written/published before then is now labeled as "Legends." Except the movies and TV series. Those are canon

I agree with you! I am really enjoying the Canon books & makes me feel more connected through these stories that align with the movies & TV.

Lost Stars and Bloodline are my favorite new canon books so far, aside from the new Thrawn trilogy. I also enjoyed Dark Disciple. A lot of the new canon books have been readable and worth reading at least once just for general interest, though they weren't necessarily my favorite. (Though to be fair, even the EU had stuff like that.)

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey Tamra!!! Welcome to the group!! So glad to have you here!! I am a HUGE EU Legends fan!! I was working my way through them before the Disney canon hit. and that's when i started this book club. So i could try to keep up with the new stuff. There are so many good ones like the group said and also some meh books.

If you haven't read the movie novelizations, those are fantastic, especially Revenge of the Sith. The new Thrawn trilogy is wonderf because it does i corporate some of that old canon magic. My FAVORITE book of the new canon is Lost Stars, by far!! Also Dark Disciple and Leia: Princess of Alderaan. Lots of good ones to work with!!
And lots that we're still going to read together!

Happy Reading!!!

The Tome Inquisitor (alxjalmeida) | 4 comments Hi There Star Wars Book Club! I just joined and am a huge Star Wars and Sci-Fi fantasy book/story fan! I noticed everyone is reading Black Spire currently but just before finding this group I bought the first published novel in the New Canon "A New Dawn". Is there a discussion thread group going about this? or, should I start one? or, should I put that down and join in with Black Spire? either way, want to jump into the fun of reading and discussing these books! Ootini!!! :)

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey Alex!!! Welcome to the group!! so glad you joined us!! We started the group by reading The Phantom Menace novelization, at the time it was the starting point in the new canon. But i think what's lovely about this canon is that you can really jump in from anywhere. So if you're already working through A New Dawn, that's a great place to start. Especially if you're getting hyped for Clone Wars Season 7!!! if you wanna pop into Black Spire with us, also cool!!! It's kind of a choose your own adventure over here!!
:)
Happy Reading
-Lizzie
