Flights of Fantasy discussion

Hello everybody! I'm new here on GR.
Basically I'm looking for great books. It doesn't have to be a specific type of fantasy, though I like YA.

I enjoy books like TMI, TID, Harry Potter, Throne of Glass, Game of Thrones, The Maze Runner. Stuff like that! :D

Oh, Ilona Andrews books are great. Urban fantasy. I liked the Innkeeper Chronicles. Haven't started any of the MAGIC books (Kate Daniels) but I'm looking forward to another series. Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter is interesting.

You should give The Lies of Locke Lamora a look (slightly stuttery start, but the middle/end are amongst the best fiction I've ever read).

Agreed. The same could be said about the Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson... I started that one a few times before it really grabbed my interest and didn't let go... but after the prologue, man, it's sooooo good. :D

The books are:
Mistborn: The Final Empire
The Well of Ascension
The Hero of Ages

The Alloy of Law is technically part of the series (same world), but it takes place well after the events of the trilogy, and may spoil some of the details, so definitely read that one last if you start this series. Which I highly recommend. ;)

Emilie, this may sound a little odd. I didn't care for Throne of Glass at all. That said if you liked it I'm reading another book (which I like a bit better) that may appeal to you as it has some things in common. Have you read the His Fair Assassins series?

Grave Mercy is the first. As noted I'm not that thrilled but then I'm not the target audience, if you liked one you might like the other.

if you like ya try the Percy Jackson series. rick Riordan does a good job with them

Ilona Andrews 'Kate Daniels' series is awesome! I only stumbled across it a few months ago.

If you like dystopian type books then I would try The 5th wave as well, by Rick Yancy

Neil Gaiman's Smoke and Mirrors is a great fantasy read of short stories.
and Clive Barker's Abarat is also wonderful YA read (though I advise getting the illustrated version).
also Barker's Imajica is a very interesting concept though it is far from being YA.

I would probably suggest Half a King. It's a really good YA book and Joe Abercrombie has written a bunch of other fantasy books if you turn out to like this.

Also in the "YA fantasy" vein, how about The Braided Path. Really interesting Asian themed fantasy from the author of the Ketty Jay series.

I am completely biased, but I really enjoyed the Alanna: The First Adventure series by Tamora Pierce for YA fantasy. A lot of the good recommendations have been made already! (Like Neil Gaiman and Brandon Sanderson.

I recommend Kevin Hearne's The Iron Druid Chronicles which starts with Hounded.

Mr. Rothfuss "Kingkiller chronicle".
Still waiting for the third book.

Blue Moon Rising is a great book and a start to a fun world. Simon R Green.

I always recommend the classics. You can't go wrong with Ursula LE GUIN's Earthsea series, and Anne McCaffrey is great too.

David Eddings, Terry Brooks, and Robert Jordan are three more authors you might want to consider if you're looking to read some fantasy.

I really enjoyed Robin Hobb's Farseer Trilogy and Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time. They are more traditional fantasy I think.
