Hi everyone! I started this group so we can hopefully meet some new and interesting people who share our love of romance novels. Of course, we can talk about ANY type of book, but as I mostly read historical romance novels, as does everyone else that I know, I'm guessing that that is where the focus of most of the discussions will be. Here are a list of free books I found available on Amazon today.

EB, you should have all of these books already--I'm pretty sure I've already sent you the links.

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Very nice on your freebies. It's a great idea. I just got back from picking up my hubby. He has his vest it straps on him like a bra. So I'm calling it his mansere. Did you ever see that Seinfeld episode? Any how he is all hooked up and ready to go. He wears this for 2 weeks and then goes back to his doctor and we g from there. I love the rules. LOL! I'll try. Now I have to figure out how to invite. How about you? Do you want to try Kate? I did talk with TBT and I'll see if she's interested.

Good news about your husband. Yes I saw that Seinfeld! LOL Poor thing, sounds like you're gonna torture him for the next two weeks.

I did send an invite to Kate, as well as you and ASpoon. It was easy because you all are already listed as my friends. What about your Amazon friend? I think all you have to do is give her the name of the group. We should be listed under the Group icon at the top of the page. Not sure if the groups are listed in alphabetical order or what. But maybe she can simply do a search in the group section. Or if you get her email address we can send her an invite directly. But, because it's an open forum she doesn't need an invitation to join. Although an invitation is probably the easiest way to find and join a group.

I plan on posting freebie links whenever I find them on Amazon. I usually search for freebies everyday, but I've slacked off lately. It's crazier during the school year, with homework, after school activities, etc. You know the drill.

BTW, OMG! I started reading THE MACKINNON'S BRIDE, I sent you the link this morning. I've had it forever, but never read it. I'm into Chapter 3 right now and it is AWESOME!!! The action starts right away and the heroine has a mouth on her. She's so sarcastic and feisty. Just my type of gal. He has her tied to tree, in her wet clothes. He says to her "you're wet." She says "Am I really? How peculiar!" I wonder if 'tis because you abducted me wet from my swim...refused to allow me to dry...and then thrust me away in a damp corner far form the heat of the fire." He thinks to himself that she's a sour mouth wench. LOL This book is cracking me up! I hope it doesn't go south.

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments You had actually sent that to me before and I have glanced at it but it sounds great. I read some more of my other book and hopefully will be able to get some more reading in. I seen on the right hand side there is an invite people link and we are already friends on here so I sent her an invite. Her name is Noreen. I need to check out your review. Today has just slipped away from me. I can't believe it's 6:30. My last load is going in the dryer and all the blankets have been washed and I gave both my dogs a bath so tomorrow will be more relaxing. I just was a bundle of energy. I wanted the house to look good for Ken when he got back. I have to pick on him it was in our wedding vows. It wasn't in yours? That's odd. LMAO! He was picking on his nurses terrible bad. Like one day in the hospital and on the way out everyone is stopping us and saying good bye Ken. You take care. I was like man did you have a party last night? I had fun last night. I had a couple Raspberry Smirnoff and we played Scrabble until midnight. God was it fun. Okay I'm going to check out your reviews. Lark finally talked to me. Not a lot but it's a start. :)

Reading Fanatic | 1833 comments Mod
LOL. What reviews are you gonna to check out? I haven't written any...at lest not today. I've been too busy reading. Finished the one you loaned me. I'll write my review and return it tomorrow. Thanks again for the loan. I'm now in the throes of MACKINNON. Not sure I'll get to bed tonight, if this book stays as good as it started.

Your husband sounds like a sweetie. No I don't remember picking on one's husband being in the vows! I've been remiss in my wifely duties. I'll have to get right on that. LMAO

You and lark together...now THAT'S a mess. LOL

I'm glad you sent your friend an invite. Hopefully we two will be three soon. LOL

message 7: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Lark just wrote back and said she was happy on Amazon. So that's a no go. I threw it out there for TBT and have heard nothing yet. I thought you said you wrote a review or something. The second one I sent you did you say you have read it or already bought it. I somehow got things twisted around.

Reading Fanatic | 1833 comments Mod
That's because you're a mess!!!! LOL. No I haven't read it yet, not have I bought it. I'll read it next. You know I don't like to read series novels back to back, so I'm taking a break with MACKINNON.

Yay I know Lark is happy there. But with this being an open forum people can come and go as they wish. Shoot just because you join a group doesn't mean you HAVE TO comment...at least not all the time. Can't wait to meet your friend.

message 9: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments I wish her well. Yeah you'll like her. I invited my friend Diane too. She has a nook and is a sweetheart. She is very busy so I don't know if she will get right back or not. So wait, lol, you still want you read the one I sent you. Have I got that much right? KM writes really strong , dramatic stories and you are better splitting them up. I do to.

Yes, I do want to read the next one. I liked the first one, even though I thought some parts of it were over the top, such as the evilness of the brother and the man he tried to force her to marry. If you need it back, let me know, otherwise I'm keeping it. LOL

Kate you're a hoot! Welcome, welcome! I actually got married in Hawaii, on a boat...a small one. Right as the pastor asked if I take my husband to be wedded, blah, blah, I heaved and ended up bent over the side of the boat wretching, but not before I upchucked on my hubby's new ring. LOL Apparently I've been remiss in my wifely duties...maybe I just missed the tormenting vow, what with the being sick and all. LOL

OMG, Kate! MACKINNON is so good! I'm loving it! I can't believe I've had this book for so long and never read it. I actually own another of the books in the series...a novella, although I can't remember the name. It was also a freebie, but I can already foresee that I'm gonna have to spend some money to read the other books. Unless I'm lucky enough that my library has them in their inventory. Umm, I should be so lucky!

Re the freebie list, you're most welcome. I search freebies most days and will be happy to post links regularly as I find them. And yes, I do read historical westerns. I looooove cowboys! There's something about a man in denim who tips his hat at a woman and says things like, howdy, ma'am, and darlin'. Sigh!

Now I'm off to the MACKINNON. Toodles! Oh and I'll definitely check out WITHOUT WORDS. I'll actually do that now, before I forget. Bad memory. Sigh

Noreen Kellner | 190 comments Hi...Love your list and grabbed a couple that I didn't have from it. Looking forward to some fun times on here.

message 13: by Noreen (new)

Noreen Kellner | 190 comments Okay...I figured out that if you hit reply on a post it just goes to the bottom anyway. lol

EB, Hope your hubby is feeling better soon. Mansere? lol Sounds like I missed a good episode on tv and at your house. Picking on your husband is in your wedding vows? lol My hubby calls me Bwana, hahaha Any new issues and he is told it falls under etc. in the fine print in our marriage contract. ;)

Kate, I love historical westerns too. Recently read The Measure of Katie Calloway - http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005HF2V3W/r... and loved it!

OMG...My husband and I were married on April 6th, 1985. His birthday is on the 5th and mine is on the 7th so we stuck it in the middle. No way can he forget our anniversary. ;)

RF...I want to say, "so sorry", about the heaving over the side...but I just can't stop laughing. Yes, tormenting our men is considered a perk of marriage.

Hey, I think I have all of THE MACKINNON'S BRIDE series. Guess I should put that on my next to read list.

Hi Noreen! Welcome! Ya EB was schooling me on the duties a wife owes a husband. I missed the "pick on" one. Although, in my defense, I do lots of picking on anyway. So maybe the picking on is instinctual?

We got married on October 14th. We started dating on the 9th, but for some reason my husband always said our anniversary was the 14th...made the same mistake over and over. So when it came time to get married, we choose the 14th. My thinking was that at least he'd always remember it. LOL. It's worked!

Thanks for the link. I have it, but forgot to include it. Kate, that's another free one. Sorry about that, if you didn't already have it. I usually do a freebie search on a daily basis, or every other. Although it's harder now with school started. There are lots of books that have been free forever, but I will post them anyway, just in case others don't already have them.

OMG, Noreen! Yes you have to read MACKINNONKS BRIDE! It's amazing and holding strong! I LOVE the h. She's so sarcastic she has me in stitches. There's one scene where she escapes from her captors and the H comes back to camp to find her rushing off on horse back and his men, neked...yes I spelt that incorrectly on purpose...as newborn babes, chasing after her. I almost died laughing!!!!

That's it for today, ladies. I hope you find at least one or two to your taste. There are a couple of new ones. Most are full length novels, but a couple are novellas. EB and I both read the HIGHLAND FANTASY one and we both liked it. It's short and sweet. I've also read ROCKY MOUNTAIN which is a Christian historical. I really liked that one too. I know YELLOWSTONE is a time travel romance, although I've never read it. The last two are two of a three book series--each stands alone. Book three is the only one that's not free right now, but it has been in the past and will be again soon, I'm sure.

BTW don't you just love it when someone reads a review that is clearly labeled SPOILER ALERT and then have the gall to COMPLAIN that the review has spoilt the story?!! I've seen that a few times on Amazon and quite frankly it amazes me. For one, the idiot actually read the spoiler review knowing that it had spoilers and that they don't like spoilers, and for two, that he/she actually took the time to publicize their stupidity by leaving a comment complaining about the spoilers. Duh!

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Ladies~ I have been laughing at all the comments this morning. RF I was jealous of your wedding for two seconds and then broke out into laughter. That is an hilarious story. So romantic and serene and than blah. What is even funnier is me and Ken were married by the Mayor of Warren on October 15th. We had our first date on that date and decided to keep it. It will be 17 years this year for us. How about you? I haven't got to finish EH book yet but now you have got me interested in the Mackinnon Bride. I have so many books on my kindle that the ones I have read I think I'll remove to help keep them straight. LOL!

Also, Keira Montclair does take it to a dramatic level and at times you are right it is over the top but I still enjoy her. The h riding neked (LMAO) have you ever read Lyndsay Sands? She wrote one of her books ,and they always have humor put in them, I can't remember which one but the h was fighting naked and riding as I recall. I know I liked her The Deed and The Brat. If you like humor LS does some very funny Highland reads. I love sarcasm so you sold the book to me RF. LOL!

message 17: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Noreen~ So glad you made it. Our group is growing and I hope we all some fun. My vows are written in fine print and it wasn't my fault if Ken didn't see it. LOL! Don't worry because my husband can hold his own in that department. Yesterday when they were showing us how to set up his Masere when he got to the last electrode and pretending it was shocking him. I thought the nurse was going to pass out. Believe when I say you can never believe a word coming from his mouth because he is always trying to jerk your chain. I love a man with a sense of humor so there you have it. Di you check out Fanny Hill? I still have it but have preoccupied and now appears I'll be headed to the highlands again. BTW Noble Satyr I heard is a very good book. Lark recommended to me some time ago but it's sitting in a pile. LOL!

message 18: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Kate~ Glad you came. The last historical Western I read was by Lorraine Heath and it was called Hard Lovin Man. It was ok but nothing spectacular. The H cowboy was a virgin. That is the main thing I can remember about it. LOL! The h wasn't which is a change and was sort of troublesome to me. It may not bother all but it did me for some reason. Probably because I don't want my h more experienced than my H. I also read a book called Pemberly Ranch and it was different. Poor Lydia ended up being drug to a whore house by Wickham. They had a shoot out and everything. I wonder if Jane Austen had any idea that someday her work would be told so many different ways? I have read Darcy as a wolf, vampire, cowboy (hat and all RF). I drew the line at him being a dominatrix. LMAO! Do you have any friends you want to have join us?

Hi EB! So you're wedding anniversary is one day after mine! Wow! We will be twenty years together, but only ten married this month. I had to wait for his a** to be ready to get married for ten years! Although to hear him tell it, it wasn't like I was sitting around waiting. Which I guess is true. LOL

The really funny thing about my wedding is that they were videotaping it. Unfortunately, they edited out the being sick part. My husband was so disappointed. He wanted to send it off to that show where they air funny videos. That would have been something! LOL

No girl, the h wasn't naked...it was the MEN!!!! Haha She had a plan to take a bath in the river and get away. One other guy gets the idea for them all to bathe, so they could keep an eye on her. Of course, being Highlanders with no shame, they took off all their clothes, while she kept hers on. So, when she took off, they were left to chase her neked!!!! The H had gone off with a few of his other men and came back just in time to witness the spectacle. I was picturing it in my mind this morning while on my back home from dropping off my little one at preschool. I was laughing so hard in the car, I'm sure if anyone noticed they probably thought I was crazy! LOL

As far as friends joining guys, this is an open group. So feel free to invite anyone you want. I'm not sure how to send invitations to people who aren't already a member of GR and a friend, unless you have their email address. That being said, it should be pretty easy to find us listed in the group section of GR.

Gotta go. My four year old gave me a "honey do" list for while he's at school...can you believe it?!! I'm to bring him some candy corn and the iPad when I come to pick him up and to search for his little car while he's at school. He lost it in the house somewhere. I guess I should get to my chores. Sigh

message 20: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments I will say if you hit the invite people link on the upper right hand side if you are on Facebook it will bring up a list of all your friends. That is one way. Another I think that would be the easiest is to contact whoever it is you want to have join and have them register on GR. Either party can do a friend search and then once that connection is made join or invite. I think too if they register on GR they have a tab at the top that says Groups maybe they could look up our group name and join.

What naked Highlanders on horse back sounds like my kind of book. ROTFLMAO! I am putting aside EH book to check this one out. I can flip back and fourth. Anna is moving today but I put out a MIA status on Facebook yesterday for her. LOL! She is still doing well and getting some reading in. She'll be back with us shortly. BTW the husband wanting footage of your nausea is definitely a man thing. I am the only female in my house. I mean even my dogs are male and can say that men and boys alike get a charge out of seeing gross things repeatedly. The farting thing never grows old with them. LOL!

message 23: by Noreen (new)

Noreen Kellner | 190 comments Well, that settles it. Gotta read the book with the neked highlanders riding horses next. lol

RF...I do believe that picking on our men is instinctual. It comes so easy it just has to be. ;)
Thanks for the new list, found a few I didn't have that looked good.
LOL @ your comment on spoiler alert. I usually don't post spoilers although at times I read them. I have complained when someone didn't post a spoiler alert and basically told you the ending right off the bat...it was supposed to be a mystery that you figured out. I can't imagine being stupid enough to read a spoiler alert and then complain that it was a spoiler alert. Lord save us from tyrants and idiots.

EB...I have literally thousands of books. Way too much variety with the freebies! lol My solution was to keep only "favorites" that I have read on my kindle, but take them off the carousel. The only ones in my carousel are those that I hope to read soon. Everything else I delete and then search for them in my Amazon account when I want them. It's not the best plan but it works for me. lol

I grabbed the Fanny Hill book...does look like it will be a fun read. I have Noble Satyr as well, but haven't read it yet. So many books and so little time! lol

Hey Kate! LOL. I read your comment in the other group about looking forward to being put into a nursing home. If made me laugh so hard I had tears in my eyes. I even read it to my husband!! And it's got me thinking...I'm not quite ready for a nursing home yet--more's the pity--but I've asked my husband to get me committed to a nice, quiet psych ward where I can read in peace. LOL

Have you ever read anything by Marcia Lynn McClure? I've read a free of her westerns and they are LOL funny!!! One in particular I remember was Desert Fire. That book was a hoot...although it wasn't the most romantic book I've ever read. Yet still, I gave it five stars! She's written other stuff as well. I read her The Rogue Knight, a regency I think, but that was just an ok read for me.

BTW EB, I just realized I never responded to your question re Lynsay Sands. Yes I've read a couple of her highland romance novels, and she IS a hoot! The last one I read, The Hellion and the Highlander, cracked me up. In one love scene, where she was giving him oral sex...OMG!!! She was "praising" his manhood in such a way he almost lost his erection!!! It had me ROTFL!

Ok so I'm at the 71% mark of this book and they are just now getting to the H's keep in the Highlands. The entire story up to now they've been on the road traveling between England and the Highlands. Yet, the book is soooooo darn good! I don't understand it, but there you have it. It's not only funny, it also made me teary eyed. Sigh. BTW the story gets right into the action at the very beginning. Love it!

OMG! You too Noreen? I have near to two thousand books in my Amazon account! I try to keep them organized, but there are just too many. I too keep most of them in my Amazon account. There are just too many to keep stored on my kindle...although I do have a 32GB device.

Yes, I kid you not about the complaints re spoilers. The last one I read the woman had a TWO LINE, ALL CAPS SPOILER ALERT. She advised that she was going to discuss a lot about the book. Some idiot read it and then left a comment complaining. Really?! Here's the link to the comments section of the review, if you want to check it out for yourself. Just crazy!

I can't wit until I can dive into the naked highlanders that is the name of the book now as far as I'm concerned. LOL! I really don't need to sleep tonight. Do I? ROTFL

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments RF~ LS is hilarious with her couples. I know I have that book and have read it but have read so many my brain can't store that much info. I know how she writes so I can imagine. The one book I remember the H/h had to hurry and get married and consummate and the h had not a clue as to what took place. On top of it the entire clan was outside the door, pounding on it I might add, as he tried to mount her they continued to knock on the door to tell him to hurry up his task. It was hysterical. The h was totally clueless. She can right a very enjoyable book if your in the mood for a good laugh.

Haha. Kate you're a mess! Sad to say, but I have considered the prison route too, to get reading time. I told my husband I was opting for death row, preferably in California as it would be at least twenty years before they got around to executing me. LOL. I watch true crime does all the time...professional hazard I guess. My favorite television station is Investigation Discovery. All they do are true crime shows. My husband gets real nervous about how much I enjoy watching shows where women off their husbands or boyfriends. I tell him all he has to do is behave himself and he has nothing to worry about. ROTFL

Speaking of getting stuck with the grandkids. I tell my husband if we ever end up in divorce court the kids are his. I want alimony and a nice quiet place to live so I can READ IN PEACE!!!!

Ya MLM is all over the place. I couldn't believe ROGUE KNIGHT was one of hers. It was ok, but a lot of it was a little ridiculous and I hated the ending...there was an HEA, but no revenge against the bad guy, which I hate. As a matter of fact, the bad guy got rewarded as far as I was concerned. I was super annoyed!

You got left with FOUR grandchildren?! God love you! Raising kids ain't easy and I certainly would not want to do it again after I'm done with these two. Don't get me wrong, I love them dearly, but I'm so happy I stopped at two. I can't imagine having any more. I have a lot of respect for grandparents who go in for the second time around. OMG, Noreen. I think you're my new best friend. I checked and my library has three books by the author, none of which are the MacKinnon series. Sigh. I've got HIGHLAND SONG, which is book five in the series. It's only a novella so should be good for a one day read I think. That might be my next read. I'll probably take you up on your offer.

BTW in loaning books back and forth EB and I learned that you can only loan a book once. At least that's the way it's been for all the books I've loaned out so far. The publisher determines if a book can be loaned, and if it can, they set the terms. That being said, all the books I've loaned out have had the same terms...can be loaned once for fourteen days. I didn't pay any attention to the "once", until one day I went to loan a book I'd previously loaned out and noticed the "loan this title" option was no longer available. Just thought I'd throw that out there FYI.

So if it still shows loan this title it is okay. I wondered how it worked. I'm going to go and check that out because I've loaned to you and Ana. I'll let you know what mine show. :)

Well you are correct on that RF. Every title I lent out no longer gives you a loanable option. LOL!

That is a big deal because when they are teenagers they have developed all their bad habits. If you've raised them at least they may have some of what you tried to teach them but coming into possibly a different method of rearing kids would be tough. So yes you deserve some praise on that.

Noreen Kellner | 190 comments Wow...you are right! I just checked a couple of westerns that I had loaned to my husband and they both have no loan option available.

LOL I guess that just means it will be whoever asks first gets it. lol

roflmao at the saltpeter in the tomato sauce!

Noreen Kellner | 190 comments I agree with Elizabeth. Kudos for hanging in there, Kate. That is a very difficult job you are doing and many would just refuse to deal with it.

LOL! Exactly. They don't leave much of a choice.

Yup they sure got us good on the lending, didn't they? It's good to know though. I'll just have my mother register her device to my account when she wants to borrow a book--which quite frankly rarely happens. As for the rest, Noreen's right--first come, first serve. LOL

Oh and when you send a book out to loan, if the person doesn't download it, then you can loan it again. It's the downloading that triggers the one time loan option. Also, FYI, you have seven days to download a book loaned to you. The fourteen day loan period begins at the time of download, not when you get the email.

Kate, saltpeter, really?! LOL I'll have to remember that one. And don't you dare try to trivialize raising four teenagers...the hormones and melodrama is what I fear the most!!! My daughter is seven and she already has the teenage thing going. Ugh

Well I'm done with MACKINNON. I loved it from start to finish. The author made it LOL funny AND romantic. An excellent read. I was just checking out the other books in the series, and I have to say that book four almost sounds like a repeat of the one I just finished.

The h is English, one of her kin is trying to harm her so the H pretends to be kidnapping her, when really he's taking her away for her own safety. In this book though, it sounds like he only plans to keep her temporarily, until he can figure out who and why someone is trying to kill her. According to reviewers she's mouthy and the repartee between the two is funny. Um sounds familiar? Luckily, book two sounds completely different. It would be nice if Amazon at least offered them on KU.

I have two boys and they are good but both personalities are different. I just can't imagine having four new personalities up rooted and abandoned. It's great to be able to say it was nothing and hopefully at some point them kids will realize all the sacrifices you made for them.

That's it ladies. The list is a bit shorter than my original one, but my husband has been eying me on and off wondering when the heck I'm gonna get going--we're going out today. LOL

Anyhow, as far as the books above go...I've read RUIN ME. I didn't like it, but included it in the freebie list because, well just because I hated it doesn't mean one of you wont like it. You can check out my review. I've also read BRIDE FOR CHRISTMAS and DANGEROUS EXPECTATIONS. Those are both short and sweet. MORE THAN A PASSION is a full length novel. I read and liked that one...not great, but pretty good. I've also read ALLS FAIR IN LOVE AND SEDUCTION and LOVE REMEMBERED. I liked the first, the second was an ok read for me. I've reviewed all of these, BTW. As we get to know each other better, we'll have a better understanding of the nuances that make or break a book for each of us. Maybe we should start a discussion about our pet peeves? I'll get on it! LOL

I've copied this comment. Now let's see if it will post. Sigh
